Ever since I was little I've wanted to build my own computer. Finally, 15 years later, I was able to do it! I went into this knowing very little about "what's good." I saw the NZXT H440 case and was pretty much set on getting it. Lucky for me I picked it up when Tiger Direct had them in stock a few days ago.
The build started off with the i5 (which I will overclock in a few days) and just the 2TB hard drive. Friends convinced me to buy Windows 8.1 over sticking with 7. I then decided to grab the SSD when it was on sale because, let's face it, everyone needs at least on SSD. I know the video card is a weak point in the build but I got a great deal on it and really wanted to stay under $1,500 (including monitors, mouse, and keyboard). I plan on upgrading to the 770 (or better) and maybe throwing in some water cooling in a year or so.
Doing the actual build took a lot longer than expected. I was pretty clueless but watched a few YouTube videos well in advance. Applying the thermal compound made me nervous but everything turned out great! I think the cable management is good but I really have no idea. Any suggestions at all are definitely welcome!
I also picked up a cheap Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo for $30. I plan on using the wireless keyboard/mouse for casual gaming while using my TV as a monitor. Once I get a desk I'll set it up close to my TV for "normal" gaming. I'd then use my monitors and wired keyboard (still need to buy) and mouse. I didn't factor any rebates into the prices but I think I'll get $75-$100 back in rebates... forgot the actual number.
