Description

Built this machine for my friend who was constantly complaining that he couldn't game, have his work programs running, and watch videos on his 4-screen setup.... This more than does the trick! Since finishing the build, I ordered another 8gb or RAM, and will be upgrading his MB to an ATX that supports dual PCI-x 3.0 when he's willing to spend some more $$

Your picture shows a MSI 970A-G43 MOBO but you list a -g46 board in your parts, had you gone with the -46 board you would have been better off. For almost the same price you should have gone with the FX-6300. The PC case is personal choice but next time look for a case that allows better cable management. I like the two 7870's from MSI, great cards but I dont understand why your benchmark score is so low, with one card I am in the 7000 range. You should be in the 10,000 range with those cards. Overall a nice build but can you move the wireless card away from the fans on the one GPU? It is going to overheat without air flow.

Just double checked... My benchmark is most likely super low since the machine is running a 32-bit copy of Win7.. I'm uninstalling it now and re-installing a 64-bit version.

The SSD was a "hand-me-down" from his old machine and he insisted it had 64-bit Ultimate on it.. After actually looking into it, he's running a 32-bit OS...

Also, since I'm tinkering around I'll try to find a better spot for the Wireless card. I've installed a 120mm fan for the GPUs, but if I remember correctly from the other night, the PCI slots on this MB are in very inconvenient spots.

fsma92, after reading your post I thought for sure I would see you comment on the ridiculous price he paid for Windows 7... you had your foot down on the throttle the whole time... don't let up now...

Here's a couple background notes that may help understand my convoluted franken-build:

-I kind of stumbled into building this, my friend already had the MB & CPU, and was adamant that I build around them.. He insisted that the board supported crossfire, which the specs say is supported.

-I had leftover 7870s from a wholesale deal I landed when building Litecoin mining rigs, so I was able to offer him the pair for roughly $285 total.. I personally have always been more partial to AMD gpus, and always ran into issue with nvidia products (Still have a radeon 9600 pro from 2003 running great! for an eleven y/o card)

  • I only have ever, and will only, ever built machines into Cooler Master cases, the Liquid Cooling system was another case of "leftover" parts from other builds.

-The SSD was "grandfathered" into this machine, for reasons as I noted to ROjOdogg.

If you have Motherboard suggestions I would be happy to check out some if you feel they would be better suited to this build, hopefully I'll be able to talk the buyer into spending a little more to better tune his system.

Thanks! As you can tell I'm new to the site but wanna share the machines I'm putting together- there really isn't another good forum to get help on these builds that provides more than flaming and pure criticism!

Thanks again
