Don't Underestamate the power of lynnfield

by Malware_Bytes

Well it all started when i got my original computer with a crappy case a 1gig card and a crap cooler, but now its turned in to one hell of a machine that ain't even done. Goal for this build: 4ghz and maybe even farther on a budget. Right now as i am writing this i don't have an overclocking motherboard but that is soon to change. I mainly use this computer for gaming, sometimes 3d modeling, video and photo editing. This case MAN it is one of those things that can turn someone on if they are in to computers. Thats why i bought it. Well also to hit high overclocks i can't skimp on cooling and i needed a case that supported a decent sized radiator. The graphics card on the list, idk if it is the right one, mine is a 7870 core edition but with a single 80mm fan instead of 2. Added sleeved cables because my psu has ketchup and mustard+ the 4 pin and 24 pin were not long enough. The next upgrade is going to be an ssd for boot drive, small apps, and some slow loading games. Enough of my rambling, i will tell you some benchmarks.

Cinebench r15: Just about 500 on stock 2.8 ghz Gta 5: 100 fps ave on medium settings, until you get in to FiveM of course. Rocket league, 80-120 fps all day high settings. Pubg: medium 60 fps, bit lower in the air. CS:GO: low settings, shadows on, 200+ fps Sim games such as ATS, ETS2 and Assetto corsa run about the same, 80-100fps Fortnite: all over the place, never under 60 though medium settings, epic view distance.

Well that's about all i have for benchmark worthy games, all were on 1600x900 res. Sorry about crappy pictures, i don't spend much money for a phone, least of my priorities.

Not sure if you know this, but you can order a xeon x3440 from ebay for about $15! The x3440 is a 4 core 8 thread cpu that will actually outperform your i7 860, and can be overclocked to 4.0 ghz very easily. Not trying to rip on your build, I think it looks fantastic! Just offering some advise to lower your cost next time! :)

Yeah I know man, the computer was a gift from cousin and parents cuz my cousin had it laying around originally with cpu mobo and psu, it is actually one of the old gateway fx systems originally with a hd 5770, but I don't think it would be worth it to upgrade to x3440. If I did upgrade my cpu I would upgrade a few gens. Btw dude I love all your builds, I really love what you are doing. Thank you for the feedback

I had to abandon Lynnfield because of the Meltdown security vulnerability. Had a good OC of 4Ghz on a Dark Rock Pro 3, but I had to move on. Still ran a GTX 1060 6GB very decently though.

That sucks dude, I'm pretty sure i got this computer after that and i know it wasn't used and only had a psu cpu and mobo because my cousin had it around but never used it

Very nice older build! I'd love to see an updated price list for what you actually paid for all this.

Lynnfield still has some life left in the budget-gaming arena, my youngest son's build has an i7-870 @ 3.4ghz and with an RX560 he plays all his games at 1080p medium very well.

I have a NAS based on Lynnfield! Easy +1 for me!
That's a nice build and some nice performance for the price (and age)!
