Description

This is Elessar- my first build.

10 nerd points for anyone who knows where the name is from without googling (Note: nerd points have no financial value.)

I built this beauty originally in November when Fallout was released after years of saving and waiting, and I love her. She's mostly a gaming rig, but also gets used for school and endless video watching and reddit scrolling. I'm pretty proud of this as a first build (I'm ignoring the terrible cable management for now shhh).

An overview of my thoughts on some of the more interesting components:

-The H100i GTX is awesome. Keeps my 6700k chilly, was easy to install and looks way better than my original cooler, a Hyper 212 EVO (bleh).

-The 980ti from MSI is great. It tears through every game I've thrown at it, looks awesome in white to match my build, and is reasonably quiet under load. The reason I decided on this 980ti over the many other choices was mostly the price. I got it for under $600 with a rebate.

-The Corsair Air 540 is amazing. It was easy to build in, looks great, and has great airflow. I originally bought a 750d which was fine, but a bit boring so I stepped it up to the 540 and I couldn't be happier.

-The Asus PB278Q is a great monitor. No problems with it thus far and my 980ti eats frames alive in 1440p at ultra settings.

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

Keeps my CPU chilly and looks nicer, in my opinion, than most air coolers out there. My only complaint is the little micro usb port on the bottom that is needed in order to monitor and control the cooler in software. In my unit, the port actually seems to have come loose and is now pushed up into the block area, so now the cable won't stay seated. It's annoying, but it also works out well because now I have one less cable in my system to worry about hiding.

Storage

The WD black is a great hard drive. I still have all my data, so there isn't much else to say. My only complaint is that it can get pretty loud when being written to or read. It is often the loudest part of my system, so I am definitely going to try to upgrade to an all SSD setup in the future.

Case Fan

I bought these fans pretty much just for the purple. But they are too loud for my preference, so I replaced them with some Fractal Design Silent Series and some Be Quiet! Pure Wings. My temps are still the same, if not slightly better, and now my system is verging on silent.

I love that case. I wanted a cube case at first. Your cable management isn't nearly as bad as you make it seem.

This case is awesome. The thing about my cable management is that it isn't perfect. And I need it to be.

Other than overpriced corsair fans and bad-value 6700K, this build is amazing.

I've actually replaced the fans with some Fractals and some Be Quiets now, since the Corsairs were both loud and over priced.

This looks great! It seems like the Corsair Air 540 is as nice of a case as is my tiny Air 240!

Hot damn nice build! One Punch Man makes everything better. +1

Only con is no back plate on the MSI 980ti, and that's not your fault.

Beautiful build! I intend to do much the same with my next build. I'm curious as to what kind of desk it's on? Looking for a new one and very much like the look and size of that one.

Good build, but the temps of the CPU and GPU are kinda high.

You need to change your intake fans. Noctua NF-A14 PWM 82.5 CFM is probably the best choise for 140mm fan at the moment.

Cheers.

Can you please help me I bought the same parts you did but don't know how to connect all the cables. Can you please make a video on how to connect the stuff?

I don't have the time to make a video, but just google how to install each individual part and I can basically guarantee that you will find something to help you.
