Description

My mini gaming beast lol, i managed to fit most of the cables on left side behind the SSD mount, leaving a nice amount of space between the fans and mobo. Though the SSD does protrude out a lil making the cover a bit of a tight fit. I'm very happy with my build : ) i really dig small form factor rigs

EDIT 11/05: my 280x is defective >.< now it just keeps crashing on on every game i play, tried reinstalling drivers, deleting old drivers , reinstalling again. tried reseating the gpu. even did a clean windows install..no go, didnt even g et to try to overclock it and it crapped on me. gonna return it to amazon and get a better card, was thinking over either the 290, 290x or 780.

EDIT 12/05 finally got a new GPU, i went with the superclocked ACX 780.

this rig could be a dumpster fire and i would upvote just on the name alone! Nice build

Mediciu5 3 Builds 4 points 59 months ago

I agree with Polar. The Build looks nice. One question though. Does 3dMark read the R9 as a 7970? I know it is a 7970 slightly modified, but I would have thought 3dmark would pull the R9 name not the 7970 name.

Norm101 3 Builds 4 points 59 months ago

I'm no expert on this, but I believe the R9s are just tweaked 7970s. Very little difference.

I mean literally. The R9 280x uses the exact same chip and board as the 7970. The are almost identical. Upclocked processor and something called Mantle, which may or may not ever be useful.

The 770/760 are made by Nvidia, not AMD, so they can only be compared by performance. Different chips, different boards.

Im just curious, is there enough airflow in an m-atx case?

LookTopHats 2 Builds 2 points 59 months ago

Yeah, and was it hard to work in??

jordan0210 submitter 1 Build 1 point 59 months ago

i tried my best to not have the cables block the fan, and no its not too bad to work with

LookTopHats 2 Builds 1 point 59 months ago

Okay, thanks for the feedback

bsdev820 1 Build 1 point 59 months ago

mini-ITX (big difference between that and micro-atx) and no.

You have caught the attention of Starlana, and you have her approval. Go...game...and rise again to live another day.

<3 Starlana <3

jordan0210 submitter 1 Build 2 points 59 months ago

oh. well gee thanks :D i will :D

BaSkA 1 point 49 months ago

Me gusta Starlana.

jordan0210 submitter 1 Build 2 points 59 months ago

Thanks lol Yeah i was wondering about that too, might be because Gigabyte's 280x is just a bios-flashed upgrade from the 7970's ? i dunno if this is a common thing with the other brands

Norm101 3 Builds 1 point 59 months ago

Essentially the same card. The R9 has minor differences, but they use the same chip.

hikerdude5 2 points 59 months ago

Why didn't you get a reference style cooler on your GPU? They tend to do better in small form factor cases like this.

malcar11 3 Builds 1 point 59 months ago

Wonderful lil monster! congrats.

emad06 1 point 59 months ago

I'm building basically the exact same thing later this year, did you replace the seidon XL fans for the Xigmatek? How's the noise?

Love it!

jordan0210 submitter 1 Build 2 points 59 months ago

yeah quieter than the seidons fans, but with the config i have, the inner fan has the lights facing the radiator >.< so i dont get a fancy lit up case.

natedawg72 2 Builds 1 point 59 months ago

Very nice, I like it. I've got a Cooler Master Elite 120. It looks like they improved the 130 hugely over the 120. My setup is extremely similar to yours, with the big difference being I had to modify my case to do it while the 130 was properly designed from the get go!

Hailex 1 point 59 months ago

I'm planning on doing a build in this case, could you tell me how the cable management went? That's really the only thing i'm worried about. Nice looking build by the way!

jordan0210 submitter 1 Build 1 point 59 months ago

not too bad. i didnt go with an optical drive so i had sum space next the hard drive to shove some cables. the problem i had was the mount on the side for the ssd. i removed it to fit the excess cables, then i secured my psu to the case. but when i tried to put back the ssd mount it couldnt fit cause the psu was blocking it, so i had to slide the psu back a little so the mount could go back in. >.< its a bit hard to explain but youll see ha

Hailex 1 point 59 months ago

I can see how that might happen. I was going to remove the 80mm fan and the side mount and put the ssd under the optical drive bay so hopefully i don't run into that problem

Hailex 1 point 59 months ago

Oh and one more thing, what kind of temps are you getting without a blower style cooler on your gpu?

I want to make a PC just like this!

One question, however. Is there any way to fit an HDD in without removing the optical drive? I actually need to use both, so I am wondering if this case is a good idea after all...

jordan0210 submitter 1 Build 1 point 59 months ago

yeah there are other mounting spots for a hdd in this case. if youre not water cooling you can mount a drive right under the optical drive, or on the bottom panel under the OD. you can probably even fit a HDD on the mount where i put my SSD, cept on the opposite side.

DDawg426 1 point 59 months ago

Interesting, thanks! I will find a way to squeeze an HDD in there, for sure :D!

DDawg426 1 point 57 months ago

Also, how did you manage to put both fans in there? Did you just attach them both to the rad?

jordan0210 submitter 1 Build 1 point 57 months ago

nah the front mesh panel comes off and you stick the front fan in there, then attach the back fan to rad and align it with the front fan

96accord 1 point 59 months ago

Sorry to hear about your R9-280X! :( I have the MSi R9-280X and no issues so far. Did you RMA it yet?

jordan0210 submitter 1 Build 2 points 59 months ago

yeah i got my refund, now i just have to figure out what i want now since i saved up a bit more and can afford to get an even better card lol

dibxmonkey 1 point 58 months ago

What card did you end up replacing it with?

jordan0210 submitter 1 Build 2 points 58 months ago

i put in my old 660 and im still using that atm. Impatiently waiting for non-ref R9 290's lol

akele 1 point 57 months ago

Do you think if one was to use a sleeker water cooler/radiator then we could fit a 3.5" hdd on the bottom aswell? All this case is missing for me is space for atleast 2 3.5" hdds, I don't mind not having an optical drive so one goes there, but I've seen people not be able to put in another one either on the bottom or the side mount due to the radiators - even with just one fan.

killxzero 1 point 56 months ago

Did you stress test this sucker? Im curious if it stays cool in there with limited cable management. Also, I don't have a "need" for an optical drive but do you think you could fit everything you have in there AND an optical drive? My hardware is almost identical to yours.

obababoy 1 Build 1 point 52 months ago

What gaming temps were you hitting with the R9 280x? and what temps do you hit with the 780? I just picked up an asus r9 290 and in Battlefield I hit 90c while playing!!! I have the same case.

Feliks 1 point 36 months ago

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Feliks/saved/fvKV3C Here is my build, its pretty similar, do you think I'll have trouble with that gpu in that case getting too hot or no?

AlexBretana 1 point 22 months ago

Am i the only one who gets the tf2 reference?

Electrospeed -1 points 59 months ago

I'd have spent $30 more and gotten a GTX 770 because it comes with Batman: Arkham Origins, Assassins Creed 4, and Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

xBlood_Monkey 10 Builds 5 points 59 months ago

But this way you get more performance.

Electrospeed -3 points 59 months ago

But not an extra $180 worth.

xBlood_Monkey 10 Builds 3 points 59 months ago

What..?

Electrospeed -2 points 59 months ago

The approximate price of the three games the gtx 770 comes with.

xBlood_Monkey 10 Builds 3 points 59 months ago

You shouldn't be buying a video card because it comes with free games. You set a budget and then decide upon a card based on performance, temps, etc.

If Nvidia offered those same games with a GT 640, would you buy it?
