Description

Title says it all. I got a Dell OptiPlex 760 for free. It came with a E7400 and 2gb of ram. I took a couple of other "scrape" pcs and made this monster! I took a burn up motherboard pc that I got for free, cpu was a Q8300 and 5gb of working ram and tossed it in the ole OptiPlex. Took a ancient 128gb SSd that came from a 3rd pc and put that in there. From a 4th pc I took a PNY Quadro 400 and put that in there. Imaged it with Windows 7 as that was the key on the box. Its a very capable general use pc. I tried CSGO, got 35+40fps on high, dropping down to medium settings got 60ish fps. Time spent, 2hrs, money spent ZERO!

Update Took out the ram and replaced with four 2gb stick. 8gb total now.

Cheap is good, free is even better!

I have a soft spot for repurposing those old OptiPlexes. I've got an old 780 that I turned into a router/firewall for my network. Seems to have more than enough horsepower for that and it too was free. :)

I see a floppy drive which I still use in my windows 98 pc and on my Linux. as the old saying goes real pc have floppy drives.

Better then my grandads pc it could only get 15fps on a game that needed 64 mb of vram and 512mb of ram 1.3ghz CPU

Hmmm, if I leave the side panel off, cut the pci bracket and mount the psu to the outside of the case, I could make that work lol.

I don't think those Dell's have a standard MoBo layout, best solution is an open-air case :)
