Description

Hello fellow pickers! I've been waiting a very long time to build this PC, when I finally decided to sell my iMac I hardly ever used I was finally able to bite the bullet and build it. It is mainly used for Home Theater gaming and streaming but it will be used as a home server for movies. Here's my reasoning on my part choices:

CPU: It simply comes down to this... I had it lying around. I took this out of a guest computer that I put an i7 in a while back.

MOBO: Same as the CPU, when I put the i7 in I also upgraded the motherboard in the guest computer.

RAM: So this kinda annoyed me a little. I made the mistake of purchasing the ram before looking at my motherboard and totally forgot that I had 4 slots instead of just 2. But overall I was pleased with the look as well as the price.

HDD: I went with the Seagate Barracuda 3tb but will be purchasing more HDD's in the future for a raid config when this one fills up.

PSU: Again this is what I had lying around so I just used it. I cant believe how efficient the new maxwell Nvidia cards are!

ODD: Nothin' special, just an average Blu-Ray drive.

OS: I went with Windows 8.1 pro because of the added raid functionality as well as video codecs and server capabilities.

CASE: I went with a 4U rack mounted case because I have a separate server room off of the home theater with a server rack for it to go in. I was very pleased with the quality of the case. Had lots more room that I was expecting.

GPU: Being a Best Buy employee I couldn't beat the price to performance with any other card. Not to mention the reference cards look sweet!

Ill try and update later with more pictures of the chassis on the server rack as soon as I get a chance. Hope you enjoy! Thanks!

I don't think I have ever seen a rack mounted build on this site, good looking parts even though this may be overkill for you are needing.

I second this, and I am jealous of the fact you have a server rack in your house. What else is in the rack?

A bunch of stuff, Mostly just networking for the home and then a high end blue ray, Home Theater receiver and a whole home universal remote.
