Description

First ever build built for gaming at 1080p bought all the components from Aria and the staff were very helpful and all parts came the next day (small delivery charge as I ordered on a Friday and wanted on the Saturday).

I'm using the stock cooler as the CPU and Motherboard don't allow for overclocking anyway but will probably change it when i get a new case. The current case cable management space is terrible but for £16.00 who can complain. Also i may change the PSU for a modular supply to help cable managment when i get the new case. The last upgrade may be a rx 480/470 or gtx 1060 but waiting on benchmarks I am quite happy with 960 but if performance of the 480 is to be beleived I may jump ship speaking of which.

The MSI gtx 960 4gb oc is very good for the price and can overclock so well. I will put up my benchmarks when I'm back home (out on business at the moment and missing the PC massively) it runs all the games i have tested at high and some at very high at 1080p 60fps and higher.

I have built this on a budget of £500 and would recommend anyone to do the same compared to the consoles its leaps and bounds ahead visually and once setup is a joy to get all into settings and framerates anyways.

I hope you like it so far and I will update when i get the new parts.

All comments welcome.

Update Aug 2016

So I have added a few bits I got given the cooler from a friend who ordered it in error and couldn't be bothered to return it and I also added another stick of ram and an ssd to help with boot times the machine is running well and the next upgrades will be case, PSU and a 1060 when I find one in stock

Part Reviews

CPU

A slight upgrade on the i3 6300 an seems to running well. stock cooler is noisy but then it is free with the cpu so can't complain.

Motherboard

good budget board only complaint is the location of the case fan header is right in the middle of the board which makes routing the cable a nightmare.

Great build, but if you would of waited till the end of june you could of gotten an rx 480 for the same price of your gtx 960, and the rx 480 supposedly out performs the gtx 980.

Yeah has been a real concern but anyways hindsight is a marvelous tool still very happy with the 960 and its on my upgrade plan.

Was the DDR4-2400 memory cheaper than any 2133 you could find? Just wondering since the board can only handle 2133. Great build.

That's EXACTLY what I'm doing. I wanted a 6100 just to get mine running before the end of the free windows 10 upgrade, planning on swapping in a 6600k and a custom liquid cooling loop. Also waiting for the RX480, gonna do crossfire.

I was going to go i3 and upgrade later but when you look at a z170 motherboard and cooler the costs keep adding up and i had to be very strict with my budget. Thanks for the feedback you should jump in with both feet (as long as you have the budget) the pc waters are lovely
