Description

this machine is mainly for gaming and when I get CS6 some audio and photo editing. my i5 runs very well with most games but crysis 3 puts a lot of stress on the CPU, the 7850 will run a majority of the games I've played on high/ultra settings (games along the lines of crysis 3, metro 2033, BF3, and other games used as benchmarks may have some trouble). the GPU also sits right against the side panell it doesn't put any tension on the PCI-E slot but it might be a concern for people using ice-Q cards.

Honestly, it's like $40 more. I agree, why not do it?

Yeah. honestly, with all my games and stuff, I don't think 1TB would cut it. I wouldn't say my steam collection is massive, but it's certainly not small.

I also do audio and some video editing from time to time and I need the extra space for my raw recordings.

Why spend that much on a massive SSD and not on a 7950? makes me cringe

because I only just got the GPU the rest of the build I had purchased a few months beforehand

Obviously a good build. I love your choice of case. Personally I love the Prodigy.

it's a wonderfull case but the video card just barely fits

I also built a computer using the prodigy! Yours got more upvotes than mine though :( Guess I should of waited until the weekday to post the build instead of the weekend when everyone was out relaxing. Nice build though!

I really this version of the case better then the white one. Nice build.

is that 230mm fan loud?

  • 1 point

a little but it's not too bad, that fan is the loudest thing on my build until the fan on the GPU goes over 35% which it rarely does

I'm in the process of buying parts for my (first) build - I'm probably going to go with the same mobo as you. Was looking at the 230mm bitfenix fan and wondered - does the mobo sys fan header control the fan speed of that fan?

gosh, have you even used %1 of that hard drive yet, i save raw video and never trash on this computer and yet i have not even exceeded 200gb, you could have bought a sweet 500gb solid state for that price and completely skip the hard-drive.

also, you probably should have succumbed to nvidia's cards, essentially AMD dominates price/power for low end cards and Nvidia dominates price/power for high end cards, you could have gotten a much faster and reliable 660 ti.

so far I've actually used 500 GB, I'm also very content with my video card, the only thing it can't run well is crysis 3

I am sure I am not the only one who gets annoyed at these type of comments? By all means offer tips but don't be so negative. If your definition of constructive criticism is 0% constructive and 100% critical, don't post it.

More than that though, this is the first time I have ever compelled to comment on one. How on earth is your alternative build appropriate in any way?

This guy has called his build "my prodigy build" - you don't think perhaps that his choice of Prodigy case was a central part of his design? Changing it to something else, not only a different case but a completely different sized format (his is micro ITX and yours ATX) is entirely ridiculous.

Have a look at the pictures, yes ninfan has obviously overspent on things like the fan but he's done it for a reason - he wants the green. He even changed his taskbar colour to green (nice touch by the way) and it still didn't even trigger! Unbelievable.

oh yea, sorry, did come out a little badly

also, scratch the video card suggestion, your in such a mid-range card area that it does not mean a thing to use one card over the other.

but i still like nvidia for their linux driver support :)

Because there is more to computers than just performance and price. He's not mad, just annoyed that people don't see past to other important things like design and space limitations, and only recommend cookie cutter builds that only have "best performance for money" in mind.

Lenoz is also saying you could have posted why you think it was better instead of just telling ninfan, "Hey this is better, you should have done this." without saying why.

Also, you aren't the only one making these comments, and i understand you were only trying to help. While the brunt of his comment felt like it was being only directed towards you, understand that it was a comment meant for everyone.

Yup to all of that. You absolutely did not deserve all of that rage, iiLeGiT - as mentioned that represents 100% of my 'complaining' posts, so sorry to use you as an example - but you absolutely did deserve a portion of it. Rant over.

Well that specific one you selected is for AMD sockets. I have no clue if it would fit the case. Just make sure you get the right one for your socket.
