Description

This is my build from October 2014 (recently posted). I was content with the performance I was getting but wanted to upgrade the components and visuals a bit. Here are the components I added/replaced in the last 3 months or so:

MOBO: Replaced my PC MATE with a Tier 1 mobo; MSI Gaming 7. I was getting 4.4Ghz @ 1.150V on my PC MATE so I know it would appear my chip should be able to handle 4.6-4.8Ghz @ ~1.3V. This remains to be seen and I don't plan to push it that hard until I need to from a performance standpoint. I will try 4.5Ghz @ 1.150V with this new MOBO to see if it helps make a difference. 4.5Ghz @ 1.150V on my PC MATE resulted in blue screen.

CASE: Upgraded my Carbide Spec-02 case to the beautiful Air 540 Mid Tower... So happy with this upgrade! So much more room than the Spec-02 and the cable management is literally brainless, there's a TON of space for the cables around the back. I could not recommend this case enough. The only thing I wonder about is how durable the Silver finish is. I'm thinking of adding 3 AF 120s to the front of the case.

STORAGE: Added a WD Green 2TB for extra storage. Considering a Seagate SSHD 3 or 4TB. Need to do some research to see what the word is on those. My WD Blue works great for my games but 1TB isn't as much as it once was with so many games that are now 20-50GB! If you have any experience with the Seagate SSHDs please let me know what you thing.

H100i, Corsair fans, K65+G502 were added not too long ago.

Awesome man! + 1 for the baby pic. Also, are AIO coolers supposed to have a line of thermal paste as opposed to a dot? Making me second guess how I applied mine lol

Thanks! I don't think it matters too much whether you do a line or center pea-sized dot. I was actually questioning myself if I should've went with just a dot lol. I watched some youtube videos on thermal paste application and the conclusion seemed to be either a line or pea-sized dot.

What I really checked to see is that my temperatures were not any higher than they used to be, and mine are fine. If your temperatures are fine, then I think you've nothing to worry about. If anything, the center pea-sized dot seems to be most popular.

The original build is from October 2014. At that time I actually got a decent deal. The 900 series (GTX 960, 970, 980) were not even announced at that time. Had they been out, I would have a 970 in stead.
