Description

Originally budgeted $700 for the box and $500 for a monitor. When the Asus PB278Q 27.0" came on sale for $400 I snapped it up and went from there. Really feel like I got some bargains and shelled out a bit more than anticipated on a) CPU b) GFX c) keyboard.

Hadn't put a PC together in about 5 years, everything seems exactly the same except numbers on components have either increased or decreased dramatically! So relieved that I got 0 dead pixels on the monitor and all other hardware seems to be working smoothly. Couldn't seem to boot a Win7 install from USB but Win8 install was smooth. It's taken a lot of customization to rid the OS of the stupid interface and get me back to something I recognize.

Still going through the rebates and such to get a real price on the whole thing.

Very nice build. Love those Corsair Obsidian cases. Why the unlocked CPU and a H97 board?

Yea the case is sexy, really nice build quality and feel. See my reply to Superhostile's comment for the H97.

Was planning on hiding the box under the desk somewhere but wifey thinks itshould stay visible as it looks like 'nice furniture'.

Nice build! Also, you won't be able to overclock that unlocked processor with a non Z97/87 mobo and cpu cooler.

Hi - and thanks!

Yes, I know about the inability to overclock on this mobo. I'm not really interested [maybe scared] in doing so, and saving myself ~$40 was more important than spending that amount on ~.5ghz. Maybe I'm wrong, but a Z97 in the future won't be a large amount to shell out if I need to.

Check my build. similar to yours and I was worried my power supply wouldn't be enough for an i5 +1 that monitor kinda blew your budget but its sweet

I was planning to get that keyboard but decided to pay a bit more for a K70. Wherever did you find yours at that price? Nice you got so many deals to blow it all on a monitor :p

Yea it was $50 on newegg around b-friday, I had a $10 credit after a lot of to-and-fro'ing with their online chat CS.

I aimed/budgeted for a $700 box and $500 monitor, really 'saved' a bunch over the sales.
