For my very first build I think it was totally worth it. It runs very fast for my needs and performs great.
CPU: I went with the i3 4160, It runs wells but I plan on upgrading to the i7-4790K in the future.
Motherboard - I went with the ASRock Z97 OC Formula because it goes well with the color scheme I wanted and the overclocking ability I can get out of it in the future when I upgrade my CPU.
RAM: I went with the Corsair Vengeance LP 16gb DDR3 1600. I am very pleased with the performance but I will most likely be upgrading to 32gb once I upgrade my CPU. (The pictures are wrong, mine are actually black)
GPU: I haven't purchased a video card yet because I wasn't sure if I could get a decent one for my $120 price range, so I decided to hold off until I could purchase a GTX 970 or 980 possibly maybe you guys can help me decide.
SSD: I went with the Samsung 850 EVO 250GB for my boot drive and plan on purchasing either two more 250GB or a 500GB SSD in the future. With this built and even with my future builds I want to stay away from the slow HDDs after owning and seeing the speed of an SSD.
Case: I wanted to make this PC build small as possible. I wanted a MicroATX case and I came across the Corsair 350d. It surprisingly was very easy to make things neat in this case, Good airflow and plenty of room for cable management. I think the pics prove that. I spent a lot of time making this build look clean.
PSU: I went with the CORSAIR RM550 because it goes well with my color scheme and the 550 watts I felt would be plenty for this first build.
Monitor: I went with the Asus VX248H 24". I plan on purchasing two more along with a triple monitor stand.
Keyboard/Mouse: I went with a cheap wired Insignia Keyboard and mouse for the time being. I do plan on purchasing a gaming set soon.
Overall, I'm really happy with the way this build turned out. Performance is great and I think it looks great. It was a lot of fun to put together. Thanks for reading!
