Description

Finally decided to build a new gaming rig. The original plan was to use a gtx970, but the whole 3.5 +.5 memory buzz seemed like a near future issue.

Replaced the stock H90 cooler fan with the Noctua fan. It has a higher static pressure and quieter operation, slightly lower CFM. Pull configuration, and using it as the sole exhaust. Put both Fractal 140mm fans on the front. I'll update with OC results.

Tried to stick to parts with a red and black theme, thinking about getting the NZXT hue+ lighting controller for future bling.

It may seem like an odd SSD pair, but I had the extra 840 evo from an abandoned upgrade project. Otherwise it would be 2 850s.

The cable management was fantastic with the Fractal R5. Highly recommend. I did opt for the windowed version, but the sound dampening is still effective.

Overall the build went smooth. The motherboard didn't start up on my first test, but a clear cmos did the trick.

Update: Did a relatively safe overclock, 4.5 ghz @ 1.275 volts, and system is stable.

Stealth edit (Mar 2, 2016): After a few multi-hour gaming sessions, I needed to drop to 4.4 ghz to maintain stability

Very nice build!!!! +1

The only thing I would have done different is the cooler, you could have gotten a better air cooler for that budget. At least you changed the corsair fan which is loud for a very nice fan!

How's the temp when OCing with that cpu cooler?

Also, what resolution do you run at? If 1440p, what kind of frame rate are you getting on ultra settings?
