Description

I use my rig primarily for gaming, and it has been a dream so far. Actually getting all the parts, selecting exactly what you want and assembling it yourself is very satisfying and addictive. I already have future upgrades planned!

Part Reviews

CPU

Awesome cpu. Well done AMD. The Ryzen 1600 was a great buy. 6 cores, 12 thread processor that comes with a decent air cooler, and is unlocked. All for under $250CAD cannot go wrong with that. I highly recommend this processors for anyone in the market for a mid level upgrade.

CPU Cooler

Excellent cooler, i switched the stock fan it comes with, with 120mm corsair ml fan. Noise level is low, and it keeps my cpu nice and cool. 40-45 degrees while gaming, and 60 or so under full load. I tried the Lepa NeoIlusion rgb air cooler, which looked really cool but was anywhere from 15-20 degrees hotter than the H60, and a lot louder, which was the deal breaker for me. Can't recommend this cooler enough, easy install, good price, and decent overclocking headroom.

Memory

Excellent memory kit from corsair. When I purchased it in the summer of 2017 it was about $70 cheaper than it is now. It runs at 2933mhz

Storage

Excellent SSD, I got this harddrive on sale. No complaints and would definitely recommend to anyone. This drive serves as my main boot drive with Windows 10 installed.

Storage

Standard hardrive, 7200 rpm 1TB of mass storage for whatever. Great price for performance.

Video Card

Was the definite deal on gpu's at the time of my purchase. 1080's were going for $250-400 over msrp at the time, so i started looking at the 1070 ti's. I was able to snag this one for a few dollars over msrp. I could not say no, and I don't regret it. It's a nice card, performs well. It looks great with the Gigabyte logo and "Fan Stop" rgb lights on the front side of the card, and a nice black back plate with Gigabyte written in white lettering on the back plate.

Case

Love this case. It makes building in it a breeze, even for amateurs like myself. Cable management was simple and clean. One thing to be aware of is that it is not as long as other mid tower cases. In my Phanteks p400s i could fit any length gpu in there, but in this case you are limited with gpu length, especially if you go with a front radiator.

Wireless Network Adapter

2G and 5G band. Very good wireless card. Goes above and beyond my needs.

Case Fan

Can't say enough about these fans. I absolutely love them. They are quiet, have a solid feel and construction to them, and they look amazing. Great job Corsair.

I love elephants, and you have many +1!

but seriously.... such a clean build, the cable management... so clean, makes one curious how the it looks behind the mobo panel side.

Thank you. Admittedly the cable management does not look as clean behind the mobo panel. Still working on those skills haha.

I was thinking of eventually running two 1070 ti's in Sli, even though that would require a motherboard upgrade. Thoughts on Sli? is it worth it, or should i just save for a 1080 ti or whatever the new Nividia top end gpu will be.

most games aren't optimized for supporting SLI. game by game basis i guess.

It bothers me that you missed out on calling it Ready Player Two. Aside from that nitpick, great build!

I also have a Cooler Master gpu support stand, which i forgot to add to the parts list. It was $20 CAD on Amazon, and was well worth it. It blends in nicely, and more importantly keeps my gpu nice and straight, no sag.

What do you think about this monitor that you have out of interest?

It's nice. It was on sale for a decent discount. I would prefer an IPS 1440p monitor, but the price was right.
