Description

A friend had a Acer Aspire compact PC that he tried to use for gaming, unsuccessfully if u couldn't guess. so he saved up for months and was able to buy almost all the parts to build a computer, the hard drive and optical drive were scavenged from his old PC. also the images are in order of what we did so: opening up acer, getting hdd and optical drive out, then building the new desktop.

Part Reviews

Memory

just wanted to put here that we had alot of boot problems, after a bios update i figured out that both sticks of ram were bad but one of them kinda worked so we were able to turn on the computer. returning them this weekend

Video Card

im giving this 5 stars just for the look on my friends face when we turned on his new comp and booted up a game, it was running at a stable 1080p 60fps compared to like 600p 2fps on the old comp with a Pentium and integrated graphics. to say the least he was going crazy.

I see a cup of noodles on photo #4! Beef flavor?
I hope your friend didn't spent $400 for that Acer... or did someone else did? Sounds like he gradually saved up another 400 or 500 just to get on what he needed. Sorry to hear about the RAM by the way. Never a good feeling when it is not working with the MOBO or worse case it's not at all with any. I'm certain once your friend gets the full 8GB of RAM that works, he will be happy for some time with his upgraded parts. Thanks for sharing and so kind of you to help your friend! +1

No. Our shrimp ramen must be as pure as our souls. No lime allowed.

Wow, sorry about the RAM. That's just unlucky. On a more positive note, hooray for a nice budget build!

That Acer desktop, BTW... $400 for a J2900 machine is just price-gouging. I've built similar machines for over $200 less. D:

picture 2: why do people never rip off that ugly sticker? It's about the first thing I do while I wait for the system to get ready during the first boot/install.

edit: +1 for helping a friend to get in the game

A Proper PCMR member would not need to rip the sticker off, we build our own!!! :P

In all semi-seriousness

I agree 100%, when I work on someones PC those stickers disappear. Unless it is that "Never Obsolete" sticker from those old e-Machines, that sticker is never obsolete and must remain on the tower.

omg! I'm glad I didn't have to work on an e-machine, I never saw such ridiculous sticker. thanks for sharing

Love your monitor. Bought one a month ago and absolutely not one negative about it. Great choice for your rig.

Why not the W1-0500? It's actually a good budget PSU.

He could have gone with a Diablotek. lol, people always have to complain about the PSU. :P

Because the psu is the important part of the build

Not really. The PSU is an important part, but the motherboard is the most important part. The motherboard is the core of the build, replacing the motherboard it functionally rebuilding the PC. Yes I understand the PSU can kill a build if it fails, but a cheap motherboard will limit the build to being useless out of the box with nothing needing to go wrong.

Couldn't agree more. I swapped out an older Biostar FM2+ board for a Gigabyte F2A88XM-D3H Micro ATX FM2+ and the performance improvement is staggering.

A little of both. People on this side will complain about the PSU just about no matter what. And no I would never suggest a Diaboltek, you can get something far better for the same price.
