I use the build for school use. In order to keep it CHEEP I installed Ubuntu 12.0.4 OS. It's not an alienware, but it will run
That graphics card is basically worthless. The money would have been beter spent on the i3-2125 for it's improved graphics. Even the i3-2120 has better integrated graphics than the 8400 GS.
I might have suggested an A10-5800K if it's a school-use PC, since it'll probably be used for typing, browsing, low-end gaming and little else.
Ubuntu 12.04 has minimal support for the APU at this point. The IGP would be a waste, although I'm sure he could make use of the 4 cores. Maybe the A8 would be a better option. I'm thinking the 8400 was probably the cheapest card he could find that had rock solid support in Ubuntu.
I would be careful of the PSU, also 8gb of ram would have been better to get as 2x4gb. I like you motherboard and processor combo, but amd may have had a better set up for the same price.
Considering that it's for SCHOOL use, then we don't know if it's for gaming. No reason to down vote it because of the graphics card.
Someone who understands the meaning of "CHEEP" :D
I really distrust that psu....
And frankly, for the price of this system, it is useless. For the same amount of money you could have had a WAY faster, WAY safer system:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/KqbP- you would have had a much better experiance with the system that I suggested. You would have even been able to game a little if that is your thing.
The link doesn’t work
"It is no Alienware"
Nice for a CHEEP build. Just throw a zip tie on some of the cables looks like a cat coughed up a hair ball in there :).
Replace that PSU with a Corsair CX 430. I've heard it's a safe PSU, and it's only $35. Remove that graphics card, since you don't need it and it's only sucking up energy. Later, you can add a better card.
The AMD APUs were made for people like you. It outperforms the i3 in benchmark tests, and the iGPU is leagues ahead of the 8400, all for $20 less.
Two words...cable management.
This make other budget build look TJ11
I used that GPU to upgrade a 10 year old system with a Pentium 4 CPU, but today, integrated video actually is better.
i have the exact same 8400gs in one of my older pc's as well! it also came with 3gb ram and a q6600
Listen, I appreciate the help. Can anyone tell me if this one is worth the money? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/JVem
No, But this is http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Hvxf
