Description

Had macs for the last 10 years and using consoles to play games. My 5 year macbookpro was getting a bit slow and was as interested in my xbox 360 and ps3 as i used to be so decided to give pc gaming a go.

Couldn't be happier with the build and the performance. Plays all the games iv bought so far on ultra at 60+fps.

How do you like that case? I'm planning on buying it in white for my build and I was wondering how the airflow was?

I own the Arc Midi and my roomate has the R4 and we are both satisfied. R4 has more components for running silent although being slightly bulkier that the Arc Midi. Both have great airflow and airflow options.

Yeah the r4 is a bit boxy, it's wider than most cases.

I used to have that water bottle. Where'd you get it?

Had it a few years. Got it from some environmental website.

Good build, everything looks really neat except for the graphics card power connectors, although they look relatively short. Can you route them around the back without putting any strain on the cables?

Tried to get them round the back but they were too short. Might get some longer cables to tidy it up.

Are those speakers that you have white? If so where did you get them/what brand are they?

They are silver/grey Advent. Got they as a present over 7 years ago.

Nice Red theme going on. Personally I would have got the windowed one but as you wouldn't be able to see it I can see why you didn't.

WIsh i had spent the extra and got the window case. Thinks you can get the windowed side panel separate on ebay.

Did you order more Fractal fans?

Yeh forgot to add them on the list. Ordered them from amazon.

How is the noise on that card at boot up ? I heard MSI's Dust Removal Technology makes fans spin at max speed at start up. I just want to know approximately how loud it is because I heard the card itself is very quiet in idle and under load.

You should get a sdd and go for the g45 gaming mobo. Only difference is the onboard switches.

Great build! But the only think i don't understand is why do people always go for Intel? They are good but i feel you can get twice the power for half the money if you go for AMD. Otherwise great build; and yeah; hows the case?

  • 2 points

Equal power, not twice. And I do believe that Haswell is a bit faster than the Visheras as of now. Not an Intel fanboy, just pointing out le fax.

  • 4 points

Haswell is a bit faster, but an FX8350 is 25% less money and is better in things that use more than 4 cores by a long way. It even beats the i7 in some tasks because the cores are physical instead of virtual.

  • 1 point

It's about equal value wise, 8350 is 25% cheaper and 25% slower in some cases.

I think that's just a typo. Also, AMD hasn't put out new x86 CPUs* lately, so...

*CPU, NOT APU!

  • 1 point

Yeah, i see that. I'm thinking of using i5 in a bitfenix prodigy case seen as its a Mini iTX board. The only AM3 socket ones accept APU's only (and athlons... :/) So I thought id pair up an i5 with a 7770? What do you think about that? (Mainly because the 7770 comes with 3 free games on scan :D, plus nvidia are pricy.

An i5 with a 7770 is overkill. Get a cheaper CPU and a better graphics card.

  • 1 point

I think i may get the top range athlon with a 7770, this will work out cheaper, but will it be cheaper than an i3 with a better gpu? Also is an a10 with a 2gb 6670 worth it? I just cant decide :/

  • 1 point

I'm assuming from your original plan of i5 + 7770, your budget is about £230-50. You should get a GTX 660 and an FX-4300, or a 6300 if you can afford it.

Went with the intel mainly based on reviews i had read and i had used intel in my mac computers. The case is brilliant, had my eye on a few others but this just seemed nice and simple. The fan controller on the front is very handy when you want that little extra circulation or want some silent running for web browsing.
