Description

This is the first computer I have been able to build just how I want it. When I learned about the 1080's coming out, I figured it was the perfect time to build a new rig. I mainly use this computer for gaming. Please don't tell my wife how much this build cost.

Part wise, I knew I wanted to go with an i7 6700K and a GTX 1080. I was lucky to get my hands on an ASUS STRIX 1080. The mobo gave me all the features that I was looking for, and 16 gigs of DDR4-3000 would be fine. I know that with Skylake, you are only guaranteed 2133, but most set ups will be able to take advantage of the 3000 with an XMP OC. I went with a modest OC of the 6700K to 4.6Ghz, and it appears to be stable. The AIO liquid cooler keeps the temps at a reasonable level, however the temps are a bit higher that I would have liked. I don't care for the cables on the Corsair AIO, especially the USB cable; I can't seem to put it anywhere out of the way. The case is alright, I initially wanted the EVOLV case but wanted to go with a full tower.

The big debate for me was whether or not to go 2160p/60hz or 1440p/144hz. I ended up going with the 1440p/144hz with g-sync because I want to be able to max out settings and hit high fps. Once 4k monitors start having higher refresh rates, then I will most likely jump to one. But for now, 1440p is fine.

The build is called "The Hound" because for one, he is my favorite character on GoT, and second, it's a BAMF that kicks the crap out of any other PC I have ever had.

Can the GPU light change to white? would look nicer i think

The RGB on the GPU does not go to true white, looks more like purple. I watched some reviews where they acknowledged not having a true white. So, I just have it rotating through all the colors. I was going for white, but oh well.

The hound got killed, didn't he? ;D - by the 1080Ti I think...JK...nice build +1

If you using the rear vent as intake, you may want to consider installing a dust filter

You know, I noticed that I had installed it backwards when I was uploading the pics. My original intentions was to have it exhaust out the back. I backed off my original OC a bit and dropped the voltage. My temps are around 65 to 70 under load, so I'm contemplating leaving the fan how it is.

You must not be up on GoT, so I won't spoil it for you.

It's more of a 'dust' thing rather than lower temps, I doubt it'd have any significant difference installed either way.

Yea, fell off GoT after season 3..couldn't get into season 4....

I switched around to exhaust now. I see what you are saying about dust, only fan without a filter. Shouldn't be a problem now.

Hey how is that gpu

So far so good, but I haven't had much of a chance to fine tune it. Haven't really tried to manually oc it, but I have used gpu tweakers oc setting. It's a huge card and has some sag to it. Not bad though.

How is the monitor? Would you recommend it?

I love it so far, but I would like to try a 4k monitor to compare. I wanted the higher refresh rate on the 1440p because I mostly use it to game. I've had to disable the g-sync because it was causing some menu screens to glitch.

Thank you. Apparently it has a very good display for being a TN panel and is a better deal than the ROG SWIFT PG278Q for the price. Should I get it?

If you are getting an nvidia gpu and want gsync, then yes. There is a really good BenQ 1440p 144hz for the same price that has free sync for amd cards. I do recommend the Dell, although I've only used it for 2 days now.

Thank you. I forgot to say I am going to get a GTX 1070. Will probably get the dell one then

Unless you have a fan on that rear fan, I'd turn it around so it works as an exhaust. Right now, you're just pumping you pc full of dust.

I did turn it around. My intentions were to have it as exhaust, but I accidently installed it as intake. I realized my mistake as I posted the pictures on this site. Thanks for the heads up though.
