This is my first experience with building a computer, so it took about two days to build. I use this game primarily for gaming, but later on it will become my all around computer. So far, I have loved everything, it has run any game I've thrown at it on max settings (with the exception of DayZ). Also, I apologize for the poor picture quality, I took them on my iPod. Overall, I love the build and am extremely proud of myself for it. Also, the peripherals are listed as $0.00 because of a deal I made with my family, and the monitor I already owned.

Part Reviews

Awesome, it has kept good temperatures for me, and runs what I need it to. At 3.5 GHz, it does not bottleneck my GPU. I will overclock soon.

CPU Cooler

Now before you go saying that I installed this the way it is (fan facing down), it was a pain in the butt to install (probably because of my lack of experience) and I will be changing it later. Other than that, it keeps the CPU cool and does what I need it to do.

Good motherboard for the price, my only issues are that the I/O shield was a nuisance and that the width is only 9 inches, so it doesn't reach the third set of mounts.

Cheap, fast, reliable brand, and it looks sick.

For an HDD, this thing is fast, plus it was already formatted when I installed Windows, so it allowed a quick, easy install.

Video Card

Despite the 3.5 GB controversy, I still decided to get this card and I have not been let down yet. It runs every game I play extremely smoothly, and it also has the revised ACX 2.0 cooler design, so that's nice.

This case was cheap, and even though it isn't the quietest and the front panel headers take up the top drive slot, it's still a very good quality and nice buy.

Power Supply

Decent price, 80+ Gold, and fully modular. Only minor issue is that the cables are slightly stiff.

Optical Drive

Cheap, it works, and it installed windows.

Operating System

Extremely fast, easier to navigate than Windows 8, and easy to install.

Wireless Network Adapter

Decent connection, but it only runs at 2.4 GHz, but at this price it is a given. Will be upgrading soon.

Case Fan

Keeps good airflow and looks cool

I got this on sale for $150, and oh was it worth it. This monitor is incredibly smooth at 144Hz and I havent experienced any screen tearing. Cheapest 144Hz monitor on the market, but extremely good quality.

It is a very good-feeling mouse. It feels extremely comfortable on my larger hand and the Razer Synapse software is extremely easy to use. HOWEVER, the left button has cracked on both Deathadders that I have had.

There's nothing wrong with keeping the cpu fan in that orientation. Heat rises. If it's easier to keep that way my only suggestion is to move your exhaust fan and remount it to the top of the case above the heatsink. That way the hot air is bring pulled out more efficiently. I did the same thing with my build.

MasterSniper3731 submitter 1 Build 1 point 49 months ago

Thank you :) i will consider that, the only problem i would have to figure out would be how to keep positive air pressure, and that would require me adjusting the CPU fan

dsargent7 1 Build 1 point 49 months ago

Thank you for pointing out that difference in Windows 8.1 and Windows 8. I had to reinstall windows yesterday and I had a copy of 8, so reverting back from 8.1 temporarily had me pretty frustrated. It really let me see the improvements that have been made.

How do you like that keyboard? I've seen it around and would love to give it a try sometime.

MasterSniper3731 submitter 1 Build 1 point 49 months ago

Thanks :) About the keyboard, even with limited use, I have really liked the Razer. It has a nice feel and looks extremely good. Plus there's a USB and headphone and microphone jack on the side, so that can be very useful.

dsargent7 1 Build 1 point 49 months ago

Wow, I didn't know about the ports on it. That's awesome. I may have to grab one when I can afford it.

MasterSniper3731 submitter 1 Build 1 point 49 months ago

Same, I will be getting it soon enough, early April maybe. On amazon.com it's only $90 off of the usual $110, so I would take that into consideration.

dsargent7 1 Build 1 point 49 months ago

Oh, I didn't see your last two pictures and didnt realize you hadn't purchased it yet lol

MasterSniper3731 submitter 1 Build 1 point 49 months ago

Yeah, a friend has it and I'll use it frequently because i'm over at his house all the time. He has the headset too, and I've loved them both.

why is dayz not able to run?

IMANice16 1 point 49 months ago

From what I've seen and read, Dayz is really poorly optimized for AMD CPUs. My friend with an i5 and 770 runs Dayz better than another friend with an 8350 and 980.

nervozer4 4 Builds 1 point 49 months ago

sad to hear that. I hope amd optimization will get better in the future.

MasterSniper3731 submitter 1 Build 1 point 49 months ago

yeah, with textures on just high and MSAA on low, i still only get about 25 FPS, which doesn't look too smooth

SpecificAlduin 2 Builds 1 point 49 months ago

Yeah, I got a similar model of motherboard from ASUS, from the same line of products actually. I also had trouble with the I/O shield. I fiddled with it and I eventually got it into place. Also, thanks for the review on the memory. I was thinking of getting it for the low price compared to some other brands.

MasterSniper3731 submitter 1 Build 1 point 49 months ago

Yeah, prices fluctuate on these parts, but overall going down. I saw some G.SKill Ripjaw 2 4GB DIMMs of DDR3-1866 i think for $60 and a red/orange version of G.SKill ARES DDR3-1600 for $55

SpecificAlduin 2 Builds 1 point 49 months ago

I am doing a black/blue build currently, so the blue colour is important.

SpecificAlduin 2 Builds 1 point 49 months ago

I have the Ares 1600 MHz picked out because I am doing a budget build and 1866 MHz is not really that much better than 1600 MHz. I might get the 1866 anyway because of the cool looking heat spreader.

MasterSniper3731 submitter 1 Build 1 point 49 months ago

I personally would recommend the Ripjaw, instead of a CAS 9, the ripjaw is CAS 8 when it's at 1866, plus a little higher speed is nice to have, plus it's only like $3 more, so why not?

DimJongUn 1 point 48 months ago

Where did you install those fans? i am going to get the same case but i am not sure about the fan placement yet, i was thinking 1 on the side and front sucking air in and 1 on the back blowing it out.

MasterSniper3731 submitter 1 Build 1 point 48 months ago

I had just revised fan placement yesterday. The case comes with one outtake fan blowing out the back. I installed one intake fan in the front panel, and two intake fans on the top. The cooler has also been re-oriented to where it blows toward the one outtake fan. This creates a positive air pressure, allowing the excess air to flow out the side vents.

DimJongUn 1 point 48 months ago

Thanks, but sadly i found out that it is really hard to get in the netherlands, so i found a different case. I will use your advise becouse this one also only has 1 fan

giraffophobic 1 point 46 months ago

So is the top drive bay completely inaccessable? or is there a chance I could fit a fan controller or something in there? Nice build btw

MasterSniper3731 submitter 1 Build 1 point 46 months ago

Thank you. The top bay is completely unaccessable, but you still have three accessable bays thats will fit fan controllers and other components.

16TTek 1 point 38 months ago

nice white and gold pc! very unique colors!

Blue51 1 point 38 months ago

Does it only have 3.5gb?

MasterSniper3731 submitter 1 Build 1 point 37 months ago

I haven't tested it that far, but I believe so. Though it isn't that easy to get to the point where you need those extra 500 MBs

Warysaur 1 point 20 months ago

This name is gold lmao

KnightLawlit 1 point 16 months ago

How is your Acer GN246HL 24.0" 1920x1080 144Hz monitor holding up?

MasterSniper3731 submitter 1 Build 1 point 15 months ago

Sorry for just seeing this, but it's holding up great. I have had no problems with it, and my brother got one as well, also having no issues. I would highly recommend
