Description

I generally build a PC to last a few years before I need to make any updates. My last rig, save for the GPU was eight years old. It still has life in it, but in my anticipation for VR and that recommended requirements for new games were starting to be higher than my gear - it was new rig time!

Used mostly for gaming, but also for typical web usage and the occasional graphic design contract.

I'll be running stress tests and what not over the coming weeks (being an adult leaves far less time for the fun things in life) and will update the results here if anyone wants.

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

Pros:

  • Amazing air cooling performance

  • Quiet

  • Relatively light for its size

  • No RAM or GPU clearance issues

Cons:

  • Obviously, it is huge

Case

Pros:

  • Excellent for air or water cooling

  • Plenty of included hardware accessories

  • Spacious for working in except for one small thing (see note below)

  • Tall feet with rubber bottoms

  • Dust filters everywhere

Cons:

  • Top dust filter is not removable from the entire top cover

  • Front 140mm fan mounts

200mm Fan - Despite some mixed messaging, you can mount the included 200mm fan to the top of the case as an exhaust. The one hitch is that you need to do so with some hardware that isn't included in the toolbox from Phanteks - at least I didn't find a screw that fit. Though since I go for builds as silent as possible, I used custom silicone rubber mounts which worked wonderfully.

Front 140mm Fan Mounts - there is one hole for each spot that is impossible to reach because of the shroud on the left so if you are using anti-vibration silicone plugs, good luck getting that fourth one all the way in.

Do you have your GPU in the top slot? I have a g1.sniper board and I've just ordered the D-15, but im concerned that it may not fit with my graphics card.

Just wondering, can you max out all games at 1440p with a 6600k and a 980ti? Im deciding if i should get the 6700k, all i do is pure gaming, web browsing and stuff.. No video editing and any of those complicated things..
