I know its crazy to many of you... But some of us like and think the x299 platform is better... The 8th generation consumer chips were a rush job. Also remember the x299 wasn't a rush job, is a professional series, and etc. Plus he could upgrade to a i9 in the future. What are you going to do with 8700k platform upgrade wise? O yea, you are going to have to replace the MOBO. I personally think the 7800x is a good chip but I think spending little more on the 7820x is a better decision UNLESS you are going to upgrade to a 7900x later then I would save the money and go with 7800x. I am currently working on a build for my new workstation with the 7820x.

Additionally, because of the extremely limited availability of Coffee Lake CPU's there has been a significant amount of price gouging. A brand new 7800X can be found for around $360 easily but consumers should expect to pay upwards of $420 for a brand new 8700K (assuming they can even find one) and at that price point it make a lot more sense to spend the extra $80 and go with a 7820K (at least on the Intel side) if more cores/threads are the goal.

Go for 4 Sticks of RAM for Quad Channel! Neat build though!

i was exaggerating over the internet as he was and figured CAPS was the best way to do so.

Because Orbital like many people on this site do not like to see people make anything but the best choice and the 8700k is a better gaming CPU while retaining all if not more of the performance of the 7800x.

maybe this was not a gaming system. We could assume this system has other uses besides gaming.

But in editing work loads the 8700k can pull ahead due to its clock speed advantage.

Hopefully he bought it before as the 7800x is just a terrible buy right now.

More ram slots?

SubNauticaWaterWorld47 1 point 17 months ago

I guess if his work loads are ram dependant.
