As promised, the machine I did for the physicist; this was really fun to work on because it a has got some very nice premium parts in it (every computer hobbyist's dream right?). Hope he decides to put an after market heat sink on there, a 212 evo maybe because it's kind of a shame, but he'll be feeling it when he puts her through her real paces so i'm holding my breath. There's a reason why we got 32 gigs of ram because he is going to be doing a lot of modeling with this machine for our up coming projects; he is specializing in sensor imaging.
Funny story about this was that we had an issue with one of the serial ata cables for the optical drive. it was bad; the machine would power up and shut down, we could smell smoke and I even saw a spark coming off the back pcb of the mobo and my initial guess was overvolting (in the end i was right). But what we initially though was causing it was the fan hub. I put on after antec fans with the stock fans with some molex adapters and i thought that it may have been too much to put on one hub. I ran some tests and found that it was under normal load. But then we tried starting it without the fans just in case and the physicist came in to check on my surgery and he burned himself on the od. After some troble shooting we found out that switching the serial ata cable with another one fixed the problem completely, but i guess the od got fried and would not open so we rma'd it but i have a feeling that this was Corsair's fault and not LG which is disappointing; i know because they are the most trusted psu brand out there and i even have the 850 watt version of this same model in my machine.
