Everyone here is saying go Pascal here but, you have a 1080p resolution monitor. A gtx 970 is plenty enough for 1080p gaming and if you can get a cheap one for low $200s it might be better on your wallet. I wouldn't recommend buying a 980 ti because the 1070 will be $380 and most people right now are trying to unload there 980 tis for around $400. Though if your wallet isn't a problem, go with a gtx 1070 just do not buy the reference card.

I plan on upgrading my monitor in a few months, my buddy had this one and gave it to me. Thanks for your input, you make a good point on not getting the 980ti. I will update this as soon as i get my graphics card

If you get a new monitor in 2k or 4k, definitely go with a 1070. I have a 2k monitor and I am buying a gtx 1080 because I want to future proof my build for a little while and I want to show that thing off.

But GTX 970 is ~$300 and GTX 1070 ~$360..

People that are trying to unload there 970's right now are asking low $200s

I would still consider that overpriced...

If a new card about 50 dollars more expensive performs at a titan x level, why would I pay about 200 dollars for some graphics card that isn't even 980 performance.

Of course, this is my personal preference and others people's views may be different.

If I understand the benchmarks on Gamer's Nexus properly, the 1070 is better than the 980ti so if you have the money and can find a 1070, I'd go that route.

Good looking build.

People will tell you to go 10** for the Pascal. I would agree (since we are really close), but be prepared for early launch issues. Stuff like drivers. Not abnormal, but be aware.

The one piece of advice I will give you is: If gaming is what you are primarily interested in, don't skimp on the GPU. Get the best you can afford, and two isn't always better than one. Getting a flagship 1080 will serve you better than two 980's. Just my two cents.

Thanks for your reply, i will keep this in mind. I will update this when I make my final decision. Im leaning more towards the 10**

looks incredible! Good luck snagging a 1070. They will be quite sought after. Hopefully you wont be delayed long.

yeah that is my fear that it will be hard to get my hands on one, but i think its worth the wait rather then regretting getting a different one.

CHANGE YOUR BACKGROUND! Other than that love the build, and like others said, would reccomend to get the best GPU your money can buy.

I'd go for a 1070, you'll be perfectly settled in for a long time once they've fixed the early launching issues (if there is some, hopefully not).

Great looking build you got there, nice job also :D +1

I like it a lot! Some solid white amongst a sea of black and great cable management!!

Are you doing any overclocking on it right now? just curious if you are and if so, what do you have it humming at? Is the RAM overclocked as well?

If you can snag a 1070 for a decent price, go for it, it will give you good results! I would go for it over a 980. I have a few year old 660oc and am upgrading right now and went with a 970, just cause it was a decent deal and I think its going to be hard to get a hold of a 1070 right away for a decent price, especially here in Canada with our exchange rate. I'll look at it in a year or so, but I'll be happy with the 970 right now.

Thanks I wanted my PC to look nice, if not then what is the point of building one if you are not going to care for it. I live in San Diego and hope can find one when they come out and dont have to wait to long.

So are you playing world of warships with the deal provided with the ASUS mobo? :D I got sucked in with it on my Z170 that I bought for my new build a couple weeks ago. Not bad for a laid back quick game every so often.

Excellent build, quick question though. How bright are the lights for those fans, and do they perform well with reasonable audibility (are they quiet)? I was thinking about getting those fans for a new build, but not sure how well they perform.

The leds are super bright, but there is a button that can turn them off. as far as quite goes there are three different max fan speed that you can set them at i have then on the middle one and they are quiet. but if you turn them up they can get loud. i like the fans but have the LEDs off because they are to bright. i just use the leds from my hue +
