I wanted a machine that could perform well for games and play at 1080p and 60fps without breaking the bank but without sacrificing performance either. I settled on a GTX 970 which has more bang for the buck compared to the 980. I went with the Gigabyte Windforce G1 Gaming edition and this GPU is a monster in size and performance. For the CPU I went with an Intel Core i5-4690k because I don't do video editing or anything like that, just occasional twitch streaming and so far its held up great.
I put this build together myself with NO prior knowledge of how to build a computer, and it came out beautifully. I would reccomend the Corsair Graphite case that I got as well, Very roomy and good for cable management and at 70$ a good price point.
Anyway, i'd say this build fits right around a moderate gaming machine for a decent price of 1.2k
