Description

Hey guys!

I just built this PC after coming from a 7700k with a Palit 1080 ti FE. Since building the "Money Maker" in my list of completed builds, my interest in building PC's has been growing rapidly. Since then, I've built 3 systems for a few friends and have finally gotten interested in learning custom cooling.

With the release of the Threadripper, I found that it would be a perfect avenue to collaborate with one of the more popular modders here in the Philippines and make my first custom loop. Also, I felt that it would be a perfect time to own my first high end desktop on a brand new chipset, even if I may not take full advantage of the power my system has. Some parts included in this build are a rehash of the previous, while some are acquisitions I've made since.

I chose the ROG Zenith because of how premium the ROG line looks and feels. The board is beautiful and the accent lights really caught my eye. It was time that I owned an ASUS Aura compatible board because their RGB software integrates very well with a lot of other things. I used an Aorus board and had to wait so long until the bugs were ironed out with Trident Z RGBs.

I chose the Poseidon for the beautiful shroud and of course, the integrated water block. The infinity mirror is really nice as well.

What better way to take advantage of my new Aura sync board than to use the really cool-looking Team Night Hawk RGBs. They're only controllable with Aura, as opposed to the TridentZ's. My build will also be "dragon" themed so the agressive shape will go perfectly with that.

The result is a molten-hot looking PC that packs a lot of punch and runs pretty cool. Even more so when we're done with the custom loop hopefully by October.

EDIT: I'm still waiting for the case, CPU block and res. I'll repost when the build with the loop is finally done!

EDIT 2: Holy Crap thanks for the feature!! Just in time for the Game of Thrones Season finale! DRACARYS!!!!

thank you thanks you! means a lot!! :D

Krayven 2 points 10 hours ago

I will say the first time I saw that picture I thought "Collectors from Mass Effect" because that is what I personally saw. Now looking at your 'Dracarys' I do see where you got that from. Let's just say you inspired the title of my own personal build...

Great parts list by the way.

philphaser 12 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

Nice...but where is that custom watercooled build you're talking about? °_o

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

This is a temporary house for the build. Parts are coming still, including a new case. Hence the name Prologue

philphaser 12 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

Oh. I thought that would be a different project you did with that other guy. I think this one is perfect as it its.

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

Thanks! But I want to use the Poseidon block, and have an all nickel block coming from EK.

RiptideTV 1 Build 1 point 3 months ago

What case is everything going into?

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

Lian Li PC-O11, lotsa space for my loop!

philphaser 12 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

Eager to see it.

dcunited 1 point 3 months ago

omg, JP Modified????

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

Not JP. Tantric. He's part of the Thermaltake invitational

dcunited 1 point 3 months ago

Cool, I'll check him out

Gooberdad 7 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

Pics 10 and 11 are an awesome representation of that feeling when new parts arrive.

Thumbs up.

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 2 points 3 months ago

Yup!! And given that I'm from the Philippines, my Amazon and Newegg orders passed through customes and took a bit longer. Only amplifies the feeling when you finally have them with you!

Adamt602 1 Build 1 point 3 months ago

My build is almost the same as yours lol. And how did you get a motherboard that doesn't fit in are cases to fit?

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

I just didnt force the last row of screws to come in. The mobo's seated pretty well in there regardless. :)

Adamt602 1 Build 1 point 3 months ago

i was going to go with that motherboard but i had to return it because i didnt think it would fit

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

Yeah, the specs sheet would lead you to believe so. I pretty much had no choice since I owned the 570x already from a previous build. I was a bit worried because the 570x curves inward at the grommets but luckily it ended up fitting anyway.

Adamt602 1 Build 1 point 3 months ago

I well I'm glade it all fit!

pcgoldenbear 1 point 3 months ago

ah.. I just saw this comment after I ordered my 570x :(

So you screwed all the screws in but just not tightly? Have you had any issues with your mobo since? Do you have any tips on the install (also doing a threadripper build with the zenith extreme)?

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

yeah, just not tightly :) no issues whatsoever, except on 1st boot, it wouldnt post with 4 RAM sticks. It worked with 2 sticks and I flashed the BIOS. Worked afterwards. The most common issue with TR is getting the screws to lock in when seating the processor. I found that the included torx screwdriver makes it hard to have the screw latch on since the force you apply can be all over the place due to its "brass knucle" design. I used an i-Fixit screw driver and getting the screws to lock only took me 3-5 mins. Other than that, no issues with the board whatsoever! Good luck!

pcgoldenbear 1 point 2 months ago

Thanks! I have a quick question on the fans. Where did you plug the kraken fan and the 3 corsair fan plugs? I haven't been able to figure out the optimum location for them. Also have an aer 120 in the rear, where did you plug in that cable and mount your hue +?

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 2 months ago

Corsair fan headers went into a fan hub. Either with the Kraken fan splitter or my pwm fan hub. I didnt use a hue+ for this though. Only a single internal usb 2.0 from the Kraken.

clayder 1 point 2 months ago

@pcgoldenbear hi, have your 570x arrived yet ? have you tested the zenith to fit inside then? How is it going. Because i like this case and want to use for my zenith extreme. Thanks.

pcgoldenbear 1 point 2 months ago

Yup it fits. I could not get two of the screws into the case but the mb is solid. One thing is because of its size the board does cover a bit of the openings for the cable pass through

clayder 1 point 2 months ago

will i get enough room if i put liquid cooling such as corsair h115i on top ? how many cm is the clearance from top to the motherboard?

Anyansayo 1 point 3 months ago

Oh my God. That looks so good. All of those orange lights and simply just the specs of this nearly leave me speechless. And when do you plan on adding the custom loop? I'd really like to see that. And why did you use the X52 instead of an X62 Rev. 2? I think that at this price and performance, that would be a better CPU cooler.

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

I've owned the X52 since February, when I was using a different case and the 140's wouldnt fit. The loop's coming soon. EK's shipping the block soon and hopefully my case would arrive by mid September.

Anyansayo 1 point 3 months ago

Okay.

Anyansayo 1 point 3 months ago

Well, the X52 is still a good cooler and will still do just fine. And anyways, The custom loop will be a great replacement.

YerBoiCodey 1 point 3 months ago

an amazing build but why doesn't the keyboard match the colours

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

It's been my Razer Synapse profile since I could remember.

dragoon20005 3 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

jelly but hats off for the first few guys who have the treadripper build

what was your average power draw for the system?

average temps?

stock voltages it is running

whats was the RAM speed which was stable? I know 3200MHz is not possible ATM only at best i heard its only 2933MHz

any complains about the board?

will we see OC results?

i saw the other Treadripper builds and most complain the CPU install was the hardest to install

was that really hard?

Congrats on getting featured

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

Holy cow, I just saw the feature. Awesome! Anyway, I'll get to your questions as soon as I can. So far I've run the RAM on 3200mhz in BIOS but havent confirmed with CPU-Z. I'll check the rest later.

dragoon20005 3 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

gotcha

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

Heya dragoon!

165w power draw, and low 30's Celsius at idle. 325-330w running Cinebench and CPU temps peak at around 70 degrees. I'm running everything at stock at the moment. I'm really just waiting for the custom loop with a proper sized headspreader before I start overclocking. As of now Vcore goes to about 1.25

Playing PUBG, my system draws about 370w

The Team RAM sticks are indeed running at 3200mhz quad channel, according to CPU-Z. I'm running the latest BIOS, perhaps that may be why it works? Never really noticed a problem there.

As for the board itself, no complaints at all. It is huge, but everything about it I like. The m.2 runs relatively cool on the Dimm, and the lighting and brushed aluminum look is really nice.

As for the installation of the CPU, I found that using the included screw driver was difficult. Luckily I have an iFixit kit and having a linear screwdriver allowed me to exert downward force more accurately. The orange brass knuckle type screw driver kinda sucked.

dragoon20005 3 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

ah i see why ppl are having trouble

i need to get a iFixit kit as well

nice that the RAM are fully running at 3200MHz

The reason why i still holding off my Treadripper buy is because of the stupid price of GPUs now because of coin mining and also the air coolers which support only TR4 sockets.

I not a fan of AIO cooler after my experience with the H100i that died and leaked on me and killed my Core i7 4770K, GPU and PSU and now i am only stuck with my older Core 2 Quad PCs. That 4770K was a birthday present and was ruined :(

I am sticking with air coolers for now and waiting for the CoolerMaster offerings

Battlefield 1 point 3 months ago

You collabing with JPModified? btw, why the CPU choice?

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 2 points 3 months ago

Tantric! He's in the Casemod invitational of Thermaltake right now.

I chose to build with a TR4 because it's a new socket and I'm really riding on the AMD wave right now because Intel keeps changing sockets like socks on a rainy day. Also, really just wanted to tick off the High end desktop off my bucket list. I have a friend who does Architectural renders and I usually lend him my main rig whenever he needs to render something big. This will help him much more. I also make videos and edit photos, trade stocks and game a lot. These things, a lower spec'd PC can do, but why not right?

Battlefield 1 point 3 months ago

Gotcha. Just went to his facebook and he does good work.

codya2014 1 point 3 months ago

im planning on using the same case for my build and also want the hd120 fans, my only question is, how is the air flow in the case and how many fans are intake, how many exhaust?

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

3 intake from the front and 2 exhaust on top. I used to have 3 exhaust but with this board I removed the 3rd so I could see the OLED a d the I/o area. Oh, and my case is modded a bit. I had a hole made for the pcie power extension and holes in the bottom portion of the mobo to accomodate hd audio and usb 2.0 internal headers. Also, it's powder coated white on the inside

codya2014 1 point 3 months ago

It looks great, I plan on 3D printing a power supply shroud so the cables are tucked away well and cant see them, it'd probably bother me more than anything. were the fans easy to calibrate and get synced?

maxy1503 1 Build 1 point 3 months ago

Good built mate! But question, does the 570X fit EATX mobos? I swear it only does ATX or lower.

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

I owned the 570x prior to acquiring this board, had an Z270x Aorus Gaming 7. I didn't screw all of the screws on the final row. This is as EATX as EATX can get, and it still fit. You won't have problems with other EATX boards for sure. :)

nlukic95 1 Build 1 point 3 months ago

Can you make it turn blue?...

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 2 points 3 months ago

It's actually blue and white right now :) I changed the OLED graphics as well and it says "Winter Is Coming" :D

clayder 1 point 2 months ago

omg you make the zenith fit into 570x , how is it possible ? I love this case and i wanted to buy the zenith , but then planned to move to asrock x399 as i think the zenith won't fit inside the 570x. Did you do some modification to the case ? how is it so far? after everything setup inside , does it become 'too tight' inside and make your pc hard to breath and affect the overall temp ?

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 2 months ago

Heya! No mods to the case. Just didnt screw the last row. Since then, have moved to a bigger case, the Lian Li PC-O11wx. Currently building the full custom loop system. Temps were fine before moving the system. Didnt try OC's with the Threadripper on the X52 though.

clayder 1 point 2 months ago

how is this x34 monitor so far ? is it perfect for you ? or did you find something you don't like ?

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 2 months ago

It's good! Nothing bad to say about it really.

leoizzo 1 point 2 months ago

Congrats buddy! Question: How the Team - Night Hawk RGB memory is coming along for you?

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 2 points 2 months ago

Pretty good! I think they've finally released the software to control em recently, however I've been able to control em for a while with Aura sync. Does well as advertised, running at 3200mhz xmp.

Toxichmasta11 1 point 2 months ago

I was also looking at doing a build with the Zenith Extreme along with the Corsair Crystal 570x and was wondering if the motherboard fitted nicely into the case?

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 2 months ago

hey, the fit won't be perfect. You'll have to screw just 6 instead of all 9 holes in the mobo, with the row nearest to the grommets having no screws.

t_and 1 point 2 months ago

Nice build! Quite jealous need to say ;)

I wanted to ask you though, have you had any problems regarding cpu temperatures? Because of the kraken being smaller than the chip size. Or is everything working fine as stated in many places online?

Thanks and enjoy ;)

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 2 points 2 months ago

It's good, stock clocks won't give you a problem. Staytined for my updated build, transferred everything to a new case with brass tubing that I did myself!

t_and 1 point 2 months ago

Good to know! Thanks

Do you only have the radiator in "push mode" with the HD120 fans in the front? Couldn't fit it on top?

I'll be attentive ;)

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 2 months ago

nope, won't fit on top coz of my RAM. They're one of the widest in the market, but they do look cool. A 30mm rad and fan would probably fit with TridentZ's. Don't take my word for it tho!

And yes, HD120's pushing into the rad.

Check out some vids by GamersNexus about the thermal paste application on the chip for a better visual representation. Temps aren't bad actually, but I'm getting my EK waterblock pretty soon!

iceanddice submitter 4 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

I did, for the moment, especially after the season finale of Game of Thrones. I even made a gif for the OLED feature that says "Winter is Coming!"
