Description

I'm 31, with three kids, 4 cats and a lovely wife. It's been about ten years since I've been into PC gaming and I felt it was time to get back into the groove, so this is my first build in ten years.

Being out of the realm for ten years, I had to do some decent research, as well as call on the reddit.com/r/buildapc community (who btw were more than helpful on several occasions).

Anyway, enough backstory. Here's my build, went with a black/white theme because I wanted it to look clean because nothing in my house ever is....

CPU: i-5 4690k I found it for $200 new, and its overclock able. That's basically my reason for going with this instead of skylake. Saved some money, and it's tried and true.

CPU Cooler: Cryorig H7 I was going to go liquid cooling, but I figured I'd shave a few dollars and go with this. It's big, it works amazing, and it matched my colors.

Motherboard: MSI Z97s Krait In love this board for two reasons. 1, it matches my color scheme. 2, when I boot up there is a bad *** snake on my screen. But really though, the bang for buck on this board is totally worth it.

RAM: Kingston HyperX DDR3-1866 I opted for the 16 gig. Actually I didn't, I was a little drunk at 2 am and ordered 2 sets of 2 thinking it was just 2 sticks. Whatever I'm good for some years here.

SSD: Samsung 850 evo 500GB I went with a small one at first for a boot drive, then said screw it, and dropped the HDD and just got 500gb drive instead, it's plenty of room for me because I only play a few games. It's fast and I love it.

GPU: MSI R9 380 EDIT GIGABYTE GTX 1070 Originally I wanted to get a GTX980. But lets be real they are way too expensive. Ended up dropping to a r9 390. Then after doing some research and realizing that for 1080p I could save a few more dollars, and get the r9 380 and still be at high+ settings and at 60fps+ I went with it. Besides, it matched my color scheme. Upgraded to a GTX 1070, and added a 1440p monitor. Worth it.

GPU backplate: V1tech I couldn't stand looking at the back of my GPU after putting a lot of effort into making everything so clean. This totally fixed the problem. Gave this to a buddy, who bought the R9 380

Case: NZXT S340 Black and white, amazing cable management, minimalist design. loved it from the minute I laid eyes upon it.

PSU: EVGA 750W Semi mod It has plenty of power for if I add another 380. And its semi modular which is nice. and it was on sale.

Wifi Card: gigabyte Because I'm too lazy to drill holes and run an Ethernet cable. besides it also has bluetooth. I ended up running an ethernet cable anyway, haha. Still love the bluetooth capabilities though/

Fans: same as stock Because cooling.

Monitors 1: Asus VX228H dual 1080p monitors with 1ms response time. Sometimes I wish I went with just a single really nice monitor, but this is also awesome. I think when I upgrade my GPU ill get a nice 1440p monitor and use both of these to flank either side.

Monitor 2: Asus PB258Q 1440p Bought this when I upgraded to a GTX 1070. Amazing screen.

Keyboard: Logitech G910 Found a rather ridiculous deal on this amazing keyboard.

Mouse: MSI interceptor Logitech G502 Came with my GPU. Free and works! Gave the MSI mouse to my younger sister for college. Gave me a good reason to finally get the 502.

Desk: old school cherry wood desk This thing is a gem!!! Old couple was moving, and needed to dump it, I scooped it up for $55!

Cable extensions: White Got these to make the case pop a bit.

Light kit: satechi Totally worth the cash. My two4 year old now!!! year old will play with the remote and it makes everything look great.

Headphones: Audio-Technica ATH-AD700x with ModMic This setup is the most amazing sound I have ever gotten from any headset. I'm so glad i found this suggestion on reddit. Comfortable and Quality.

This ended up being a tad expensive, but I had nothing to reuse. I'm really happy with the build, and I finally have a little bit of an escape sometimes!!!

EDIT

Changed GPU to GIGABYTE GTX1070

Sold one monitor and upgraded that one to an ASUS 24" 1440p

Added a second Samsung 500gb SSD

Upgraded to a Logitech G502

Added badass headset

may or may not add pics to show. only thing that looks different is the GPU.

I actually had up to mists. Haven't played since right before cata, but kept my game up to date when they were on good sale. Just picked up draenor for $8 last week. May resub. Would be fun to roll my rogue again. Loved using this owned flag in pvp.

Looks like this when you use it after a kill. Got many keks.

Nice work sir. Good, realistic choice for your GPU. The 380 is a great card for 1080p/60.

That's what I came to realize, until im ready to move to 1440/4K I didn't realistically need anything bigger. And I wasn't worried about hitting 144hz either since I play rather casually.

Well bro you had me at the build name! +1 I'm 35 with 4 daughters and a beautiful wife so I get it! The gaming for escape struggle is real! Now as for the actual build....AWESOME! Love the black/white theme and that back plate (Barry White plays in the background) I think i'm in love. Actually i'm heading to V1Tech's site right now! LOL Might order some fan covers while I'm there.

When I found it I was excited. The hard part was finding it in that in particular resolution.

do the 140mm nzxt fans you put in the front have rubber things on the corners of the fans (where the screws go through). want to know because i want to minimise the amount of vibration if i buy the same fans
