Hello everyone,

Thanks for checking out my rig. I want to thank this website first of all for how amazing it is at helping us here in the states.

Prices Paid FX8150 = 0

Asus Sabretooth 990fx = 0

Gskill = 85 (135 - 50 my friend bought my old ram :)

Samsung SSD = 185 (210-25 dollar gift card amazon)

1st R9 290 = 200 bucks Black Friday thanks pc partpicker!

2nd r9 290 = 235 (269.99- 20rebate -15 paypal CC purchase credit)

Phanteks Luxe = 149.99 (worth it)

Evga 850 G2 PSU = 100.00 (134.99- 35 dollar rebate)

Win 8.1 = 0

Acer monitor = 200 (thanks pc partpicker!)

Total actually spent: 1155ish!

Running at 4.5ghz Overclocked from a stock of 3.6. with an ambient of 21C/71F pc temps are 29c/100ish F

This is under load of 1080p AND streaming to my twitch.

Resources: (to find parts, prices, info, reviews etc.)

For overclocking:

Swiftech 240x https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYKdKVxbnp8

GPU decision https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVv0at4IdZs

The rest of the parts had no competition. Just got the best in that price range.

This machine started as my friends machine that he had to sell in a hurry. he bought all the parts new assembled it and then sold it to me within a month. It took until black Friday 2014 for me to think of upgrading the GPU. Power color 200bucks

After that I have been ordering parts as they go on sale thanks to this site.

new parts: GPU AIO Liquid cooling Phanteks case Gskill ram EVGA 850w PSU Acer GN246hl

Old AMD FX 8150 (now im looking for the 8350 on sale) Win 8.1 Sabretooth 990fx mobo

I mainly use this to game. BF4, Evolve, Heroes of the storm, Dawn Of war 2 etc etc..

I don't regret any of the decision and of course if I had couple more hundred lying around I would've bought Nvidia or Intel but I am not feeling cheated. Everything runs great, cool and quiet!

Let me know if you have specific questions on any of the parts. I have lots of pics of the machine and parts.

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

Have had this since Feb 2015.

No issues with noise, leaking, vibration...NOTHING. This thing is keeping my oc'ed 8150fx at temps around 41C under Load. Ambient temps have been at the hottest 25c and this thing never went past 41c.

All the reviews online as of 2015 were legit. At this time I do not think there is a better AIO liquid cooling setup.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask me any questions

Great, Great mobo.

I have owned this since 2011 and it STILL lets me overclock like a beast. VRM temps and all other temps are well within their limits. Of course I have awesome cooling Swiftech 240x 1 200mm fan ( am going to replace with 2 140mm) 1x 120MM fan exhaust 1x 140mm fan pull

This thing is going to be my streaming pc once I upgrade again. For now I think I forsee me being able to use this at least 2 more years. That's almost 7 years of using this thing. Great great product and brand.

GET TUF series boards by Asus!!

Please ask any questions you would like. I am so excited about this thing I love talking about it.

If you plan on running BF4 at 1080p 120+fps YOU NEED 2400mhz ram.

I didn't realize how important it was for BF4 until endless hours of messing my machine parts.

Aside from that this thing runs fantastically. I was running at 1866mhz stock by mistake. Sorry I was noob at the time on how to change the MHz of my ram. Once I unlocked its full potential by manually setting it to 2400mhz this thing made all the difference.

No issues.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask me any questions

I have had this since Jan 2015. I got it on sale for 200bucks.This thing is a miracle and I cant wait to see what SSD and storage has in store for the future.

Pros: Silent, low wattage, fast as ****!

Cons: NONE

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask me any questions

Video Card

This is my 2nd updated review from Nov 2014 - April 2015

I bought a 2nd card today 04/16/15 because I wanted a crossfire setup. I was fine with paying 250 compared to 200 during black Friday.

Price 8/10 Performance - 9/10 Reliability 10/10 Noise level 9/10 Value 10/10 Reviews 9/10

I spent a long time reading and studying and reviewing these r9 cards.

Check out techshowdown youtube review "Which R9 290 is the best?.." Oct 9, 2014

There is also a great forum thread on overclock.net "R9 290x and 290 owners official club"

I have to say at the beginning release of this card there were many complaints about the drivers crashing or not being compatible. As of Nov 2014 I have had ZERO issues with the card overheating, crashing, BSOD...etc.

This card has been used 8-12 hours straight while streaming to twitch without any coil whine, overheating, crashing or slowing down in BF4, Evolve, Heroes of the Storm etc. I am sure some of that was true at one time but not anymore.

Please ask any questions you would like. I am so excited about this thing I love talking about it.

Overclocking is easy and transparent. Downloaded the easy to find drivers within minutes and I was playing BF4 on Ultra (EVERYTHING) with consistent 60fps! sometimes more.

**I have since over clocked this thing like crazygaining almost 15-20% more raw power than the reference AMD R9 290 and about 10% more than the card out of the box.

Here are great reviews showing actual testing.

Look up the review from 2014 by Sanjin Rados on 2014. Great review

look up the review on overlockers by Humbug in APR of 2014

I have almost exactly similar specs to the 2nd review. I have less experience over clocking than both the reviewers and I learned a LOT.

I REALLY want to emphasize just how EASY overclocking this card has been.

The 3 star rating is underserved and I hope many of you take the time, that I did, and really try to read thru the stuff that most people post on here and give this card a bad review.*

What can I say. It is the BEST full tower for 2014 and it deserves it.

Hardware Canucks gives a great overview. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQOPK-OgvnM

I can tell you it is a dream to play inside this thing. It has all the bells and whistles. The amazing space to work in. It is a liquid cooling setup dream and it is classy. You wont go wrong buying this. I think I have future proofed my rig for at least a few years.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask me any questions

Power Supply

These are amazing. Check out the jonnyguru review. http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=377

Honestly this thing is a beast. It gave me stable power to TWO r9 290s AND a OC'ed 8150fx. Now that is a power hungry setup and this thing never failed. I highly suggest buying this thing.

Here is the calculator I used to help me. It was very accurate for me. I told it this EXACT setup and MANY people told me it would not work but it did. I can vouch for the accuracy of this graph.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask me any questions

I am basing my review upon what this monitor IS and what it DOES not in comparison to other monitors.

Great value, great performance, NO dead pixels (none), NO BSOD( blue screen of death).

No display port, no lightboost, no speakers, glossy finish on the edges, very bright

I DONT GIVE A CRAP about those things though.

This monitor is great for gamers who just need a no frills powerhouse machine.

It doesn't have light boost: I don't care because I have not experienced tearing, stuttering or ghosting.

This monitor doesn't have speakers: I don't care because I use headphones, PC speakers.

Very bright: This monitor is very bright don't get me wrong. This is the only thing i would say is worrying me for other users. I don't care about this because i don't get headaches and i actually like bright monitors.

No displayport: This means game will run at a max resolution of 1920x1080p. I don't mind this. I play FPS games like BF4, Evolve etc and want the best possible FPS. any higher resolutions and i would have gotten another monitor model for sure. Like i said earlier this monitor for me is what I will use until i get 1440p 144mhz 1ms gtg IPS Freesync monitor.

Please feel free to ask me any questions about this monitor. It is my main monitor and i use it every day!

Ok aside from the umpteen pics of the case colors can we get some internal pics. The parts list looks awesome!

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 3 points 47 months ago

yes sir. That is my next part. I am just awaiting the final GPU to arrive Monday!

XxD34THxX 1 point 48 months ago

and the wiring

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 2 points 47 months ago

sorry I didn't wanna submit pics of an un finished rig. I will be updating the pics on the inside as soon as my 2nd gpu arrives. Then I can feel its "complete".

Intellectual_Daze 2 points 48 months ago

Simple question, but did your case come with the connector attached to the back for the header controls, power, restart, etc.? I hate looking at those wires connecting to my mobo!

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

if you are talking about picture #12 at the top left. Yes the cables came dangling there and so I connected them there. I am thinking of putting some electrical tape or something else to hide it up there. I am awaiting my 2nd video card to arrive to have everything complete!

pics up asap

Intellectual_Daze 2 points 47 months ago

I was actually speaking about the connectors on pic #2 next to your ssd, but it seems it has moved in pic #12. Looks solid tho!

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

yes it is a PWM fan controller. One came with my swiftech so I decided to use that. I might be convinced to use it again now that I have a new PSU.

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

ebrainer1 1 Build 2 points 47 months ago

Oooooooooo-wee! That's some nice cable management.

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

thanks man.

I tried really hard based on what I have seen others do.

I am not done though. Have you heard of cable combs?

ankousmachine 2 Builds 2 points 47 months ago

more picks of the inside pl0x!.

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

soon my friend. just waiting until Monday to get my last part. a GPU. and then I willz!

Ian_H. 2 points 45 months ago

"If you plan on running BF4 at 1080p 120+fps YOU NEED 2400mhz ram." Not true. At all.

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 0 points 45 months ago

going from 1866mhz ram to 2400mhz ram I went from 100fps to 120+ fps and in most games

Ian_H. 1 point 45 months ago

That definitely does not seem right. The difference should be very, very minimal. Linus even did a video on this matter about 2 years ago. Here's the link if you want to watch it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWgzA2C61z4

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

I feel I should clarify. The 2400mhz ram only had an effect on BF4 and only if you plan on running games at 120+fps. If you have 1866mhz ram you can get 60fps. It is only during those two instances that I found it useful.

You want 120+fps in BF4 and maybe other games get 2400mhz ram. In all other instances 1866mhz is sufficient for 60fps in current AAA titles.

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

Here is the link that I meant to send you a long time ago. Showing how 2400mhz improves BF4 Performance because of the frostbite 3 engine.

Balkan_Bloodpaw 2 points 6 months ago

Quick question: where did you source your CPU cooler?

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 2 points 5 months ago

i forget. i think direct.

AlexisGarcon 1 point 48 months ago

That's a pretty case! For your awesome rig, i'd recommend investing in a ebtter monitor, worth of it's performance.

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 2 points 48 months ago

thanks man.

the monitor is just until the prices come down for freesync.

I am looking at the Acer IPS panel. but 600 dollars?

ill wait till its like 300.

I want 144mhz, IPS, 1ms GTG, 27inch Freesync monitor.

AlexisGarcon 1 point 48 months ago

300? Yeah, good luck with that. Trying the same with gsync, but I think i'll just say **** it and break my piggy bank :P

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 2 points 48 months ago

well im hoping for 300 haha

I expect when they hit 400 during black Friday ill pick up one. My friend paid me 50 bucks for the old LG IPS 234w that I had so all in all I spent about 150 on the Acer. I didn't care for the upped price on the Asusor the Eizo or the BenQ. I was going to pay for things I didn't need. ( A nice stand, speakers, display port)

Other than being bright this is everything I needed.

The one thing that I don't know if I am missing out on is lightboost. I haven't noticed ghosting or tearing but well see.

cilvre 6 Builds 2 points 48 months ago

i could see it coming down to 300 or less, it has no extra hardware in it like the gsync monitors, so just have to wait for the second generation of them

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

I think you are right. By Black Friday I will for sure have enough money. In fact I have the money now but..i have been spending a bunch already lol. gotta call my limit.

cilvre 6 Builds 2 points 47 months ago

yeah im at the same point, im waiting on the 390x as well so between that and the monitor i'll likely be dropping another 800 total by the end of the year.

DTF1129 2 Builds 0 points 48 months ago

Your not gonna find a 1 ms IPS panel sorry bud.

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 48 months ago

between 1 and 5ms would be fine with me. I was just speaking as if it were possible I would choose that.

yeah 4 or 5 is reasonable, but thats the trade off for TN or IPS panels either you want fast response or a prettier picture, i went with a prettier picture, and i dont notice anything from my previous 1ms TN panel.but yeah 1440p 144hz would be awesome i think. Mine is only 60hz :/

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

one day for all of us!

Chris_711 1 point 20 months ago

Hey, for your acer monitor, how did you get 144hz? Did you plug the DVI cable on your gpu or motherboard connections. Because I have this same monitor and I have my DVI cable plugged in my gpu and it only gives me 64hz...Please let me know, thanks!

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

did you still need help with this?

atz39 1 Build 1 point 46 months ago

Is it true for the monitor that you cannot use an HDMI cord to obtain the 144hz? I just ordered it and read somewhere that you need to use something other than an HDMI to get the 144hz refresh rate.

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 2 points 46 months ago

Yes. This is computer monitor not console monitor.

Growliff1234 2 points 44 months ago

Jeremyrm17 1 point 42 months ago

First time builder trying to make a build for capturing console games through PC, would you recommend that monitor?

(Acer GN246HL 144Hz 24.0" Monitor)

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 2 points 42 months ago

if that is the only reason you are using it for then its over kill. I think a 60hz monitor would be fine.

Jeremyrm17 1 point 42 months ago

thanks for the tip!

TqV 2 Builds 1 point 41 months ago

The Swiftec cooler has some knocks online concerning the longevity of the pump. Just curious if you've encountered any longer-term problems with it now that you've had it a few months.

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 41 months ago

negative on problems. silent as heck.

Supergrunts 1 point 40 months ago

I've been having problems with over heating on my 9590 (i have the Corsair h55 right now) and was trying to decide between the thermaltake 3.0* and the one you have. Was just wondering if you had any opinion or advice.

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 40 months ago

I really really dislike thermal take so im biased. Not only have they copied of mfgs products but I used to town the thermal take 1.0

I have since moved to swiftech and have had no issues. The corsair h100i series is great too. I still prefer swiftech because im a fan boy haha. My temps are rock solid even w/ 4.7ghz over clock.

Supergrunts 1 point 39 months ago

Thx for ur feedback!

Crazycat233 1 point 36 months ago

Do you think a 144hz monitor is worth it, i can't decide?

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

actually no. i think itis nice but its not life or death difference.

Hobert 1 point 35 months ago

Is the CPU cooler rgb.

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 35 months ago

the h240x? No. It has one light but thats all

MasonCK 1 point 33 months ago

Is the monitor good for also day to day productivity?

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

I would say yes but not for 8 hours of highly detailed graphic intense work. Or spreadsheets in excel could possibly cause tired eyes.

I have played 10-12 hours on this game in various types of games..heroes of the storm, bf4. dawn of war..evolve etc. Never have i gotten tired but i can imagine some people would.

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

still need help?

WueroLoco 1 point 30 months ago

hey dude I really don't know how to use this site... I literally learned about it yesterday when someone told me about it. anyways the thing I wanted to ask you was I'm doing my first pc build and I was wondering if the display or the screen you bought you would recommend to someone like myself. I like that it's black and red, but this is a monitor that someone else recommended to me instead of the one that I chose. it's like fifty bucks more for one more inch. I was wondering if this would be something that would be good for a first time builder like myself. (Acer GN246HL 24.0" 144Hz Monitor) is the refresh rate also tied to the fps ill be getting? thank you

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 29 months ago

wueroloco. sorry for the late response.

reply back here and i will answer your question.

WueroLoco 1 point 28 months ago

i forgot what the question was to be honest lmfao. but I am building a pc for the first time and I think I need a little bit of some help if you wouldn't mind... I have steam if that would be easier to contact me on if you're interested in helping. if not that's cool, and I understand everyone has their time and can choose how to spend it. if you decide to help though I would be greatly appreciative of your decision and would love to hear back from you. my steam is wueroloco. (like I said if It would be easier to talk on there)

Lithium03 1 point 29 months ago

What do you mean "no lightboost"?

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

hi sorry I just saw your reply. did you still need this answered?

Lithium03 1 point 16 months ago

No, I read it supported lightboost so it was weird you said it didn't. Since then I've bought it and it does indeed support lightboost.

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

I read it didn't but I could be wrong. what there perhaps a firm ware update?

Lithium03 1 point 16 months ago

I didn't need to update anything, just run ToastyX's custom resolution utility to install the right refresh modes and its good to go. It's the easiest monitor to trigger Lightboost on.

MrDee 1 point 28 months ago

How are you liking the monitor. Would you still recommend?

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

LightProtecter 1 point 24 months ago

Does the monitor support 144hz with HDMI or do you have to use DVI-D?

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

DVI D for the acer

Moose123 1 point 20 months ago

About the monitor, My current monitor is a 140$ 60hz 1ms monitor and was wondering if the 40$ more for the monitor was worth it, also how is your experience on fps games, (cs, ow, bf1)

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

hello. did you still need this question answered? sorry for the late reply

Moose123 1 point 16 months ago

Yes that would be great!

batpimp submitter 2 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

"was wondering if the 40$ more for the monitor was worth it"

if you have the GPU and CPU that can run more than 60mhz and play games that it matters in (FPS GAMES) then yes that 40$ to me is definitely worth it. in general gaming that is NOT FPS games..it only makes a bit of a difference.

also how is your experience on fps games, (cs, ow, bf1)

for the past year I run every game on max settings and have had no problems

current setup is 5960x on a 1080ti and everything is crazy nice

Moose123 1 point 16 months ago

Ok thank you so much for the feedback, really helped.

NeonWildSurge 1 point 14 months ago
