Description

It was time to upgrade my gaming PC (Brutus). Loving the new parts. The motherboard especially. The GPU is pretty good too. It wouldn't have been my first choice (it was a warranty replacement for a 780 that died), but it is really pretty and has some pretty decent performance to match it's looks.

Update: I don't actually have the Logitech MX Anywhere 2, I have the Anywhere 2S but it's not on PCPartPicker yet, and I'm tired of waiting for them to add it.

Part Reviews

Storage

This SSD is pretty old now. Paid way too much for it. But it reads and writes a bit faster than it is advertised to do. The Intel software that comes with it is really good and easy to use to. Vastly superior to my Kingston SSD

Keyboard

This keyboard is really nice. Bluetooth keyboards are so hard to find. And this one is great. Wish it was backlit, but you can't have it all. I don't use the mouse. Gave it away, but the person I gave it to has no complaints.

Update: Windows 10 recently updated and the driver for this with it. Now it disconnects after being inactive for 5 minutes or so. It reconnects when you use it again but it takes a bit. You can hit 5-6 keys easily before it reconnects. Which is annoying.

Mouse

This mouse is a piece of garbage. Will be replacing it very soon. It lags, it disconnects, it makes me feel like I have the shakes really badly. It looks pretty though. My brother has the same mouse and has similar issues.

Solid build at a solid price point. And I like your apparent naming scheme.

Nice build! Very similar to what I'm putting together! How's the Fractal case treating you? I hear mixed things.

Love the case. I've had it for a few years now. Just did a build in and R4 as well for my sister-in-law and it was really easy to work with too. They're heavy though. Like 16kg (35lbs) empty. Great customer service too. I bought mine in a city that's a 6 hour drive away. When I got it home I noticed the paint was chipped on one of the side panels. I contacted Fractal and they sent me a new one. Was pretty painless to get it.

IF you dont mind me asking, what did you upgrade from?

From this. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/b/bqjXsY More of a changing teams than an actual proper upgrade. But this motherboard is WAAAY better than the old MSI one I had.

Noticeable increases over the AMD 8350 and GTX 780?

The 780 worked great but ended up blowing a hole through itself. Luckily it had 2 weeks left on the in-store warranty. There wasn't much difference between the 970 and 780 with the AMD 8350. The 6600K did make a difference in games though. A lot less stuttering (especially in GTA V). But in general computing tasks I think I prefer the AMD chip.

hey how is that cpu cooler? Also Amazing build!

It works really well. Really impressed with it I originally used it on an AMD FX cpu and had no issues with it. But on this build the fans would ramp up, then down, then up, then down.....not too sure why. I replaced the fans (as you may have noticed from the pictures) and it works much better now, even though these are not high static pressure fans. But the summer of 2016 will be the first summer with these fans on this cooler, so I will have to monitor the things before I know for sure.
