Description

It was time to update from my old computer with a GT220. If I could go back in time I would of gotten a slightly bigger case and a modular PSU but this was my first build and a learning experience. The hard drive was taken from my old computer, the SSD was bought refurbished, the motherboard is after $20 MIR, and the graphics card is after $80 MIR.

You might wanna work on managing those cables, it'll get you better airflow. Other than that, nice build for the prices!

The cables are definitely on my to-do list next week, I was in a hurry to put it together and get back to studying for finals. Thanks, i'm really happy with the prices I found too!

The prices you got on these parts are pretty awesome, +1

It was actually kind of an accident that it was such a good price. I bought the SSD first and realized after I couldn't use it as a cache with haswell chipsets and started building around that restriction. Ended up being 95% as powerful as my original plan for $300 less!

Nice prices! I would flip that PSU so you are not pulling hot air from inside your case into your power supply. Your case should be open at the bottom.

OOOHHHHH that's why there is a dust filter and vents on the bottom! Thanks for pointing that out I feel silly now :)

You may want to work on adjusting your cables a bit. Not only will it look better, but it will also help with temps and whatnot.

Nice price on the 670, by the way. :)

Great price on the 670! Aside from the obvious cable management, which I'm sure someone has already pointed out by now; you should really consider adding another intake fan right over the PSU and GPU. It's not entirely necessary but I'm really paranoid when it comes to airflow.

Thank you! I'm going to work on the cables and stuff next week with all the free time after finals. Someone else also pointed out my power-supply should be pointed down. Right now if I run a GPU miner or something (just to test the temp at high loads, I know mining on nvidia is silly) the card does get a little hot. After I make those changes if it still is hot I'll take your suggestion and get another fan.

The cheap case is a real common rookie mistake that i also made on my first build. You can live with the non-modular PSU if you get a good case with room behind the motherboard to stash those extra cables.

Here is my build old build before and after replacing my case.

Wow that looks so much better, wish I had seen that example earlier! I'm going to try and see if I can do better with cable management in this case next week as I'm not happy with how fast the card gets hot under 100% load.

Yeah that's sounds like a good plan. I would say definitely flip the PSU as well assuming the case is open on the bottom(which it looks like it does). When the PSU is face up it takes from the same air as the GPU and on some cases can hog some of the fresher cool air from the GPU. Clearing up the cables will help a lot as well.

Great first build and great prices.

Besides the cable management, I would have gone with a Redbone U3 case. Otherwise, this build is a steal for the $610 price. Great b.uild

The is definitely the best budget build I've seen. 170$ for a 670? I am green with envy.

Any new pictures for this build? I'm interested how the cable management turned out.
