Description

Hey everyone, this is my first rig to post on PCPartpicker. I made a previous build, but never uploaded pictures.

This rig is meant to be a replacement for my old system, which had an i3-6100 and a GTX 960, but the power supply blew out. Once that occurred, I decided to get a new system with the R7 2700 and a GTX 1060 6gb.

I currently don't have any temperatures or Benchmarks, but will upload by next weekend.

Part Reviews

CPU

I am absolutely loving the performance this 8 core/16 thread cpu is offering. It deals every game with Very High settings, 1080P at 80 fps+. The rgb cooler is also pretty cool to look at if you have a windowed build. Too bad I had a non-window pc.

CPU Cooler

This cooler was a pain in the *** to use for my system. I realized that the C7 didn't offer a back plate for the AM4 series, which is understandable since they provided a separate AM4 back plate online.

The major problem with this situation is once I put on the AM4 backplate, the holes (followed by the instructions at least 20 times) wouldn't fit the cpu cooler threads since they were too tiny. In this case, I had to use a drill press to make the holes slightly bigger to fit the cooler. Not to mention, the back plate is also made of plastic, and was afraid every single second not to break it as fitting it through the holes.

Once turned on, everything runs fine, but the fan can be loud, even when I control it on Afterburner.

This took a lot of hassle, and if I were to recommend a cooler, it would be the Noctua AM4 cooler since they already provide a mounting kit.

Motherboard

The motherboard is really nice and useful for most of needs. It provides OC settings and lots of tools to use for your rig, including the Polychrome Software. The only thing I wished it came was a Fan Controller in the BIOS. Otherwise, I am happy with this Motherboard.

Memory

This R.A.M is really fast and holds all of my tabs and games nicely. It almost feels like 16gb is too much R.A.M for me.

Storage

My PC boots up and takes me to the Windows 10 desktop in under 10 seconds. I definitely recommend any person to get any Samsung SSD.

Storage

The Seagate Barracuda drive is holding all of my files and other games nicely. I recommend this 3TB hard drive if anyone needs a lot of storage.

Video Card

As of now, the GTX 1060 6gb is running all of my games beautifully. The only game that had trouble running at Very High settings was GTA 5, but it only dropped to 50 fps during explosions. Although I plan to play only at 1080p, this graphics card is perfect for 1440p gaming as well. AND IT IS SUPERCLOCKED!

Looks awesome! Very clean and looks like it packs a punch too. I've always wanted to build in a Silverstone HTPC case before....maybe one day. What kind of PSU did you have...the one that blew out?

I had a Corsair CXM 550 80+ bronze, which was really good and I could have used the warranty to return the items, but I decided to upgrade instead.

Still have my empty rvz02 case laying about, I did love the layout and small form factor, I wish Silverstone revisited this design and made it more compact and ditched the gamer look. Anyway end of rant. Nice build and +1

I agree, I wish the front panel didn't have plastic as the main I/O panel, and wish it didn't have the orange as the only startup color. Otherwise, I enjoy the case and space it provides for upgrades.

You can change it from orange to red, just switch over the HDD led and Power button ;)

Did you put the 3.5 HD’s in the case? If you did how did you mount it?

I mounted the hard drive next to the gpu on the the top right of the case, because my gpu is small enough to mount a hard drive 3.5 inches or smaller.

Thanks I asked because there was a tip to turn the optical drive bay into a 3.5 bay if you are not planing on using a optical drive.

Have you thought of using you optical drive area for your 3.5 drive?

Your motherboard bios has a fan controller, it is in the H/W monitor subsection.
