Description

R2D2 ModBuild dedicated to general productivity and 1080p gaming.

All parts were either bought used or came from previous versions of my Coconut Lime build.

I spraypainted parts of the case, the GPU, the RAMs, the MoBo heatspreaders, the CPU cooler and it's fans to give it an authentic-as-possible R2D2 look.
For the details on CPU cooler and the case i've cut out decals of self-adhesive vinyl foil.
I took the Corsair logo off the decorative motive on the front, painted the bare plastic square blue and drilled a hole for the red LED.
The GPU backplate was made from a piece of acrylic glas, which i painted blue on the bottom and white on the surface. The green-lit GeForce-logo got sandpapered to become white.

This build is nothing fancy or overly complicated to do, but rather a simple mod, which everybody should be able to copy and rebuilt. Feel free to do so.
My own attempt turned out far from perfect, but i'm pretty content with the result.

This project was heavily inspired by MercoMods' GPU mod for the Trident of Neptune build.
I also always wanted to mod the MSI Z97M Gaming ever since i saw RexTempus' Shadow Box.

Hope you like this build mod.
May the (Ge)force be with you!

Far from perfect? This build is amazing. The theme is spot on. Without the build title anyone can look at it and immediately think R2-D2!!! The cable management looks amazing. I have done a few budgety builds where I have spray painted pieces and it is definitely not as easy as it sounds. Your paint job look great. Any tips in that area?

Also just want to say that I love that this is a $1000 build. For me I think the best part of building is getting something unique like this. Anyone with money can shove a few 1080Ti's in a case but a build like this shows a lot creativity and passion.

There are certainly some flaws to the mod. But i guess those are minor enough not to show if you're not as close to them like when you are working on it.

the part i find most pleasing about this build is that, while being absolutely GORGEOUS, is not a decked-out crazy i7-6700k sli 1080ti setup, just a nice casual build that again, looks gorgeous

love it! may the upvotes be with you!

Is there are reason why you didn't want to go with the same blue & white color scheme extensions for the 24 pin?

I think a custom IO shield in the same color scheme would be a great finishing touch. Here's a video on how to make custom IO shield if you'd like to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Lo8ZjtlciM someone recommended him to me PCPP and I thought I'd do the same because his videos have been very helpful for me in my pc modding projects.

  • 1 point

No white&blue 24 pin atx cable available in my region. GPU cables were easy, cause single white 8 pin and single blue 6 pin.
And usually you don't see much of an IO shield anyways.

  • 2 points

Wow awesome build dude, the build looked like it took forever! +1

How did you make the green plastic where the geforce gtx is on the graphics card white? Did you cut it out or something? I'm seeing if i can do something similar with my Vega 56 because I don't like the red accent.

Thanks :)

  • 2 points

Sandpaper. But take it out of the housing first. ; )

  • 1 point

Hmmm, does it snap out easily or is it difficult to remove the plastic? I'm surprised not a lot of people have done that mod, it makes the card look a lot cleaner.

The build and the mod is unbelievable. Great job. Well deserved feature.

My only complaint would be this: If only your budget would have been higher, you could have chosen a different processor and, especially, GPU.

But, alas...the budget was incredibly well thought out and, honestly, if it runs your favourite games and does what YOU want it to do...who cares anyway.

+1 DUH!

  • 2 points

Thx. Was in fact a client build, so it was his budget. Client cancelled, i've built it anyways. Had to do it (my dream mod). So now it's for sale. But i did as good as i could regarding both the mod and the components.
