Description

Bought the parts and built it in a day. Would have gotten the 3930K, but I heard that the Z79 boards have compatibility issues in Hackintosh builds, so I went with the 3770K at the last minute.

I'm not a fan of the NZXT H2 case. It's terrible for watercooling and has poor mounting slots for fans on the top and rear of the case. I'm thinking of returning it in exchange for a 600T...

Cable management could probably be a bit better, but I spent too much time on it as it is.

She runs SILENT. The coil whine from the nearby Fluorescent lamps were louder than this thing. I could barely tell it was on.

How is the 680 working with OS X? I heard they can be a real pain. Although, now the imac has a 680m in it, so maybe apple has it all ironed out.

It seems okay so far. I haven't yet run any programs that can fully utilize the cuda cores, but the card seems to be recognized in the system properties.

I had to install a custom driver for the card though. I'm not sure if Mountain Lion supports Kepler cards natively.

Ah, alright. I think mountain lion does on some level, otherwise how could apple install kepler cards on their computers?

Well, I can tell you had no budget whatsoever. Looks to me like you're gonna have quite some fun with that build. :)

Well, I build it for a friend, but it was a blast to put together. A challenge, but a blast. It was my first time putting in a radiator, so that was fun. A pain, but fun in the end. XD

How loud is the 680?

Not loud at all. To be fair though, I'm not really stressing it out. Plus, the case I have (switched from the H2 to the Fractal Design Define R4). The H2 is quieter, but the Define is much better built. It's your call though.

Can someone explain to me what the definition of a Hackintosh is? Is it just a pc made to run OS X?

Pretty much, but it's not emulated. The Mac OS is directly installed onto the hard drive. This particular computer doesn't even have Windows installed at all. Just Mountain Lion OS. :)
