Description

I use this rig for some gaming mostly. The PC easily crushes gaming at 1440P and is great for multi-window multi-tasking.

If you want, you may suggest any benchmarks/games I should run and I will try to run them.

The build rationale starts about here

  1. 4690K: Games like a champ once overclocked a bit.

  2. NH-D15: Thought it wouldn't fit but it just barely did

  3. Z97 pro gamer: Asus Board with a red theme with great OC capability and BIOS options.

  4. HyperX black: Works and hasn't caused errors.

  5. 850 evo and WD blue: The gamer's choice since 2014.

  6. Asus ROG strix 1070: "Silent but deadly" would describe it well.

  7. NZXT source 210: It didn't shatter... yet. Scratched the side panel window multiple times.

  8. Supernova P2 750w: Great power supply, decent cables, 24 pin cable is too thick for many cases.

  9. Windows: actually a windows enterprise license.

  10. industrial fans: does the job and can be silent.

  11. HP envy 32: Great for work, Decent for gaming.

12: K70 Rapidfire: Great keyboard for competitive gaming

  1. Deathadder Chroma: One of the best mice out there for multi purpose usage.

  2. My passport 2TB: does a good job and has a large capacity, didn't corrupt.. yet.

Witcher 3 (STLM, HD Reworked, etc): 60-80FPS at 1440P

BioShock Infinite: 150-200FPS at Ultra 1440P, dips to 100FPS in a few scenes

MineCraft (Continuum Ultra, Bump Mapping, S&K x512 all others maxed): 20-15FPS at 1440P

Counter Strike: Global Offensive: 250-300FPS at 1440P, occasional dips to 180FPS

Leave any suggestions for improvements down in the comments section. Please describe picture requests in detail (angle, what to showcase, etc etc) and I'll try to fulfill your request.

Part Reviews

CPU

Gamer's choice Pros: OC's to 4.2Ghz easily. Runs all single GPU configurations just fine. Stays relatively cool. Cons: Not for heavy workstation users. Succeeded by the 6600k

CPU Cooler

Pros: Best air cooler on the market by cooling performance, one of the most silent ones . Cons: puke brown fans.

Motherboard

Basically a Z97-A with a red color scheme, overclocks well and has a nice layout. Easily works with most builds.

Memory

Reliable and good looking RAM for a reasonable price.

Storage

Gamer's choice for a 2.5inch SSD.

Storage

Gamer's choice for a 3.5inch mass storage drive.

Video Card

Best all-rounder GTX 1070. overclocks slightly weaker than the AMP extreme but uses less power. Slightly louder than the MSI gaming X, but stays significantly cooler.

Case

Decent case: Cable management: 8/10 plenty of room to lay cables out but some thick cables don't fit Cooling: 5/10 Fits the biggest and baddest Air coolers, but can't even accommodate a 240mm rad Build quality: 9/10 side-panel window a little flimsy and easily scratched but the aluminium frame is really robust Ease of use: 10/10 Delivers with everything you'd need, plenty of expansion options, didn't encounter any issues during assembly. Ease of use is near some high end cases like the H440 and Define R5 (in my opinion).

Power Supply

Great power delivery and stability. Great cable options, with okay length for most ATX cases. Custom cable options readily available. The 24pin ATX cable is a little thick for many budget cases like mine.

Case Fan

Moves a lot of air at the highest settings, can easily run silently at 1500-2000RPM. Can be used with Noctua chromax anti vibration fittings to fit your build theme.

Monitor

Okay monitor for doing both work and gaming at the same time.

Mouse

Lasted through tough use, the rubber grips came off but i cleaned it off and stuck it back with some superglue, and now it works fine. The left mouse key started squeaking after 2 years of use which is understandable.

Seriously with a h100i v2 or less intrusive water cooler it would be perfect, not sure about that cooler. Anyway I still like it and more pictures would be appreciated. Also I love strix cards.

Evil_Paroxysm 5 Builds 1 point 28 months ago

Though it is big and ugly, the cooler is a very good one from my understanding.

ok

I did consider a H110i GT and NZXT kraken X62 since i could mount 2 140mm fans on top, however this case doesn't have very good water cooling support and i can only fit a 120mm rad which is much worse and louder than the NH-D15. Yes the NH-D15 is ugly, but ******* it performs well.

I am confused, are you the same guy on a different account, or do you have the same case?

Yaqinhasan submitter 2 Builds 1 point 28 months ago

Evil_Paroxysm isn't me, YaqinHasan is the owner of this PC

chubble123123 2 Builds 1 point 28 months ago

Sorry ignore that comment, what about a 120 mm one, anyway just an idea.

Yaqinhasan submitter 2 Builds 2 points 28 months ago

Tried a H80I GT, loudest thing ever, cools worse than the D15 and also used a lot more cabling. Then the mounting broke so I couldn't reuse it and then the pump leaked and took my old motherboard with it.

This is not a potato my friend, for it is a french fry. Love the build, and the fan might not be eyecatching but it is very efficient, so props for that!

Yaqinhasan submitter 2 Builds 1 point 28 months ago

Thanks, I regret nothing, it's so silent and does a good job cooling my CPU, so good that I even put 1.35 volts and only got to 75C

This is not a potato, it is straight vodka! A 4690k with a 1070 should NEVER be called a potato.

Evil_Paroxysm 5 Builds 1 point 28 months ago

You can make vodka from potato's, why cant it be both? :(

Yaqinhasan submitter 2 Builds 2 points 28 months ago

Imagine making mashed potatoes with vodka sauce though

Evil_Paroxysm 5 Builds 1 point 28 months ago

I see no problem with this.

Yaqinhasan submitter 2 Builds 2 points 28 months ago

Your deceptirig is awesome!

Evil_Paroxysm 5 Builds 1 point 28 months ago

I appreciate it, working on its big brother now.

SilverWolf149 1 point 28 months ago

Strix, noctua, nzxt. What a great combo. +1.

Yaqinhasan submitter 2 Builds 1 point 28 months ago

Thanks, I almost settled with a hyper 212 but then just went, "eh, I can afford the NH-D15" so i went for that

SilverWolf149 1 point 28 months ago

Good. Right choice.

Yaqinhasan submitter 2 Builds 1 point 28 months ago

The hyper 212 is still the most common CPU cooling solution, after stock. I would bet

KingSB 1 Build 1 point 28 months ago

Looks great! I love the NH-D15!

More pics please

Yaqinhasan submitter 2 Builds 1 point 28 months ago

Would you mind describing some of the pictures you have in mind? For example which angles and which parts should I showcase

Nater650 1 point 17 months ago

12 - 15 FPS for minecraft isn’t too good, no offense

Yaqinhasan submitter 2 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

Let's see how you fare with continuum

Nater650 1 point 17 months ago

I get a rock solid 60 with no mods installed

Nater650 1 point 17 months ago

60 FPS

Yaqinhasan submitter 2 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

My mac gets a rock solid 80, it's minecraft m8

Nater650 1 point 16 months ago

I just crushed your benchmark by getting 540 FPS once

Nater650 1 point 16 months ago

The integrated graphics on my processor would blow up if I tried using continuum
