This major upgrade started out when I bought my friend's old 7870 XT. Since then, I also upgraded the PSU, CPU, and motherboard.
CPU - I was going to get a 6300, but Microcenter had the 8320E for $10 more so I got it.
CPU Cooler - Reasonably cheap and keeps the CPU cool.
Motherboard - Good price with Microcenter's combo deal and gets the job done.
Memory - The only thing left from the original build way back in Feburary 2012 because I found no reason to change it.
SSD - Bought it late 2013 and must be one of the first new, slow drives, because my friend who bought the same drive at the same time I did (same store at the same time) got an older and much faster one.
HDD - Just a 1TB Blue.
Video Card - When I got this, the fan on it was completely dead. I originally just glued one of the 92mm PWM fans onto the shroud with Gelid fan adapter so the card could control it. After the GPU reached 90O C, I realized I needed to do more. So I added another 92 mm fan, zip tied them to the heatsink directly and replaced the thermal paste which was very dry. Now it barely touches 60O C in games and reached 65O C in furmark.
Case - Good refurb deal at Microcenter and holds all the components well.
Power Supply - When I got the video card, I ordered a CX 600 but it started to have tons of coil whine, even when the computer was off. I RMAd it and got this XFX unit which is running perfectly.
OS - Already had it.
Monitor - Got it for free because the vga port is broken but DVI works just fine.
Keyboard - So nice to use compared to membrane keys. I got the one with MX Blues.
