Project Eris on reddit

Project Eris is complete! This monster mini ITX gaming PC features Intel Skylake technology and MSI GTX 980 Ti graphics. The custom build is housed in a limited edition anodised red In Win D-Frame Mini case. Everything is custom in this project - watercooling, cables and plenty of mods too.

Watercooling loop fill: gif / full video

Please note the prices are the default on PCPP and not necessarily what was paid at the time. Also I put the black version of the case in that parts list, as it was the only one on PCPP. This build uses a limited edition red anodised version .

I'm going to start off by saying that I don't fully enjoy looking at black/red themed builds.

Now I'm going to be a hypocrite by saying that I love the black/red theme in this build.

This build made me realize 4 things: 1. In Win low end = crap, high end = amazing 2. My red balance on my monitor is WAYYY to high 3. I need to be more familiar with motherboard component placement, it took me way to find that 980ti 4. My dreams of a "awesome looking water cooled PC" are put to shame by this

  • 1 point

Absolutely stunning. Thanks for sharing. Really inspirational stuff. Do you mind sharing how you tighten (and not scuff/scratch) those black compression fittings. Thanks!

  • 1 point

Thanks for your comments. I learned to be very careful with the EK black fittings, as have scratched some before! It's also quite easy to leave skin marks on them too. So this time I had a strict gloves-only handling policy. They were all hand tightened, partly because I lost the allen key that fits the fittings! But the lower part of the compression fittings has a knurled ring, so it's possible to hand tighten.

Looks great, but just how are you going to keep it clean Ie its just for show, we all know a Pc its just a dust magnet (mine is sponsored by Dyson) so unless you run it in a big plastic bag its a waist of time and effort (would love to see the pics of it after a year of work)

  • 1 point

Meh, dust isn't really that bad. Plus, compressed air does a good job at cleaning dust out on computers anyways, sure you'll have to do it more frequently, but not that much more frequent.

Black vinyl stickers for motherboard capacitors

What do you mean by this?

The larger capacitors on the motherboard had a black coating on the edge, but a silver top. So I used black vinyl stickers to cover up the silver parts on the tops.

how many fans did u have on your radiater and did u need a heat gun to bend the ecrilic?

  • 1 point

Hi, there are 2x 120mm fans on the radiator. And yes, I use a heat-gun to bend the acrylic tubing. You need to use a silicone insert tube inside to prevent the acrylic deforming when heated.
