Description

My first build, so do be gentle on the cable management, xD. The cable management is horrible at the back, so I didn't get a back view

I took me about 3 hours to finish the build. I had some troubles on getting the radiator in a good position, fitting the motherboard on to the PC, and getting the PC to detect the SSD. You have to be careful on what screws you use to screw the motherboard on the standoffs, I used a wrong screw, and that screw is now in that standoff, and I'm having trouble removing it from the motherboard.

My thoughts on this PC is that it's amazing! The Thermaltake fan looks especially good and is very powerfull. I've set the fans up in a way that when the PC is idling, and not in use, it runs with positive air pressure, to prevent dust settling. When gaming and heavy use, the PC turns into negative air pressure, to enable more efficient cooling.

The GPU gets over 280 fps, on max, on Counter-Strike :GO. This is the main game I play, and I use it for youtube recording as well. It is very efficient and is perfect for me. However, if you're going to play more triple A games, I would go for a 970 as it is better to play on max.

(btw, the ram is the black version, not the red version. I got the blue version from amazon. Same specs, though.

Don't hesitate to comment with questions and thoughts.

Thanks

I have ordered an NZXT hue +, to add some lighting into the case. Maybe it will make it look a little nicer :)

Edit: The NZXT hue + has arrived! Yay! I have replaced the pictures. The pics may look a little too saturated with blue, so I'm sorry. I have a cool marquee effect on the outside, and a solid blue on the inside. It looks nice, too bad I cannot upload a video. My camera is pretty shitz, so sorry!

Could have balanced the CPU and GPU a little better. Going down to an i5 6600k may have allowed you to purchase a 970, but I digress. This is a pretty solid first build that will give you nice performance in pretty much everything you do. Enjoy the computer!

The i7 is way better because you can disable hyperthreading if you play games. Plus, in this case, the 6700K has 2 MB more cache than the i5-6600K.

I don't really see the need to disable hyperthreading in games. Also it's more about the balance of the build. I'm not saying that he should have straight up gotten an i5 over an i7, I'm saying he would have been able to purchase a 970 if he had gotten the i5. Switching down to an i5 from the i7 would not affect gaming performance at all, and he would have a more powerful GPU which would have given him better results.

Thanks man. I would of gone for a i5 and a 970, but I was only playing CSGO mainly, and i get +200 fps on the 960 and the i7 really will help me more when I'm rendering vids for youtube. But other thank that, thanks for the advice man

Yeaa, I see what you are getting at, bro, but the main game i am going to be playing is CS:GO at this time. I'm a GCSE student, and my parents have promised me a £3k budget if I get good grades in it :) So I was trying to keep this cheap as possible, while being able to reuse parts for the main build next year, hence the i7.

Hey man I just finished my build with that same CPU but opted for the 970 (great card so far :D), would recommend that CPU cooler?

  • 1 point

that cooler sucks. I have one in one of my older buids. the temps on it were awful and the pump runs loud after a couple of months of use.

  • 1 point

what about on the smaller corsair water coolers? Have any experience with those?

  • 1 point

yeah those are pretty good, I have a H80 in one of my older builds and I have heard nothing but good things about the H50 and H60

Because i currently have the 212 EVO and i want a better cooler before i overclock my chip

  • 1 point

Damn, how long did the cooler last for you then?

The cooler actually still works surprisingly, it's just loud as hell and needs to run at 100% to be efficient. I don't really ever use that computer anymore so it works for me.

Ohh, ok. Thats fine, I'm waiting build my own pc case, as I'm a GSCE student in the UK so for my Design Tech coursework, I'm doing a modern wall mounted pc case. So I'm going to be doing that along with a custom water cooling loop, so I think it will be fine. I'll also be upgrading to a 980ti or whatever that out then :)

Cool deal man. Pascal is coming out in the next couple months and AMDs Arctic Island GPU line will be coming out supposedly later 2016.

The cooler is loud, but its decent for its price. It works well for me, and my temps never reach above 75, but each person might have a different experience :) If you are going to be doing a lot of cpu work, you might want a better cooler. If your not, than this one is alright.

Ya, u may wanna balance out ur CPU and GPU. Other than that, it's a beautiful build. The case is sexy! Enjoy!

He said he used it for youtube and he only plays csgo mainly so he doesent need a gtx 970 and the i7 is perfect for youtube allowing him to render videos very quickly

Yea, pretty much. If you wanna check my channel, its The Lucky Gamer. I haven't made any proper videos with my new PC soon, but I've got some planned soon! The Case is stunning, and I have installed the NZXT hue + a day ago, and now it looks so much better. I'm uploading a picture of it. :)

Why an i7 but only a GTX 960? That seems a little unbalanced to me.

CS:GO, something something human eye cannot see past 280 FPS.

Yea, basically its only for csgo mainly, so a 960 is fine

The bottleneck here is nearly nonexistent, the 960 is far from a weak card. He would have been better off with an i5 and a 970, but the combination that he has won't give him any negative results in games that aren't related to the pure performance of the hardware.

You know that kid that always tries to make it seem like he knows what he's talking about and then gets made fun of by everyone because he completely failed at BS'ing his way through something? Right now, you're that kid. Optimally, a GTX 970 would pair perfectly, and you can water cool and overclock and i7 with a 120mm rad AIO.

Be nice. We get it that you may feel like you know everything, but for the people who are new, at least treat them nicely. Everyone had to start off somewhere...

well you shouldnt comment if you dont know what your talking about. Ive seen this dude comment on a bunch of peoples builds acting like he knows what hes talking about. He doesent even have his first build yet

Who, maggotshero? If I am not mistaken, he has 5 builds in his completed builds. BTW, I do know what I am talking about. I was trying to prevent bullying. Yes, there are really dumb forms of bullying, but that doesn't mean that I will be a bystander. If he was not bullying and he was just joking around, then I do apologize for calling him a bully.

oh I did not mean to type this as a comment, I was replaying to the guy that said "get 980 or 6600k if possible because your bottle necking your cpu. your cpu is to good for your gpu. dont overclock on that 120mm rad at least a 240 for stable oc" lol

That isn't how bottlenecking works....Also a 140MM AIO cooler you can definitely overclock on.

Hey man, I understand your logic, but im overclocking just fine, and completely stable on the 120 mm rad :)
