Wireless Network Adapter
+ Total (Australia):
For years i was a laptop peasant rocking an Asus G75VW. It got the job done and was easy to transport between my parents houses but you really don't get much for your money.
So i sold that piece for a stupidly high amount for what it was worth (not complaining, people must just like laptops...) and went about planning my gaming PC.
This is my first build and i wanted to do it right so a lot of research into the parts and i think it's almost at a point now that i'm happy with it.
Wanted a themed build because it was going to be on my desk for show and i'm a stickler for good looking things that all go together.
Also wanted to get a 1440p monitor and game at 1440p, and i am not disappointed. Would highly recommend anyone making the jump to 1440p if you have a good enough graphics card.
Overall the build process went pretty smoothly, the S340 is a fantastic case to work in. The cable bracket is the greatest idea i have seen and you can hide the cables so easily. PSU bracket is also super helpful for hiding all the unnecessary cables downstairs and keeping upstairs clean. For future might get some custom cable sleeving as the EVGA power supply is fully modular, although it's stock cables look pretty nice not going to lie.
All the prices are my total $AUD amounts converted into a $USD for all you Americans.
CPU i5 4690k - Originally was looking at a 4590 but in the end said screw it and went for the big boy. Sits pretty at 4.5GHz at 1.25v. Runs everything like a champ and barely reaches 60% load. Bought second hand off eBay hence the lower price.
Cooler H100i - The S340 is designed for front rads and with the 4690k's overclocking potential i thought why not. Again bought second hand off eBay. It was pretty dusty when it arrived and only the red LED's in the logo work which i'm a little bummed about. Otherwise it keeps the CPU hella cool and it was relatively easy to put on.
RAM Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1866MHz - It was the cheapest 8GB dual channel kit and it matched the colour of the ASRock MOBO perfectly. Plus it has low CAS and is 1866, no complaints here.
MOBO ASRock Z97 Pro4 - Here's where things get a little tricky. Originally i was going to go AMD on the GPU and managed to get an R9 290 for $242 off eBay, and i was originally also going to just get the Z97 Anniversary, but i thought if i ever wanted to go crossfire it would save me having to get another motherboard. However turns out my R9 290 was defective and ended up getting a 970 so this board is a little bit much for what i need, but it has good overclocking potential, and an M.2 slot if i ever want ridiculous SSD speeds in the future. Also has a nice blue colour to suit the case, although the blues don't match up quiet as well as i'd hoped.
Storage 2TB Barracuda - It's storage and it's cheap. For all my "videos" and "audio files" Galax Gamer SSD 120GB - Bit of a dark horse of the SSD world. Heard good reviews and it was significantly cheaper than the competition. Nice looking thing as well.
GPU GTX 970 G1 - The real hero of the build. Was going to go AMD but after the defective POS and the ****** drivers i decided to go green. This thing is so quiet and so cold. Overclocks like an absolute champ and runs games at 1440p well enough on its own. Very impressed with this piece.
Case NZXT S340 Black/Blue - Thank you NZXT for creating such a pleasure to work with. Only complaint with this case is that i wish it came with two fan spots up top to put a radiator for future watercooling loops but other than that this case is perfect and looks amazing.
Monitor QNIX 2710 Evolution II - This monitor is a beast. Stand/Shroud looks okay, but the PLS panel is just like an IPS and the colour representation is ******* amazing. 1440p gaming is absolutely gorgeous on this thing as well as the fact of it's overclocking ability. Can overclock to 120Hz on some tight timings, but i currently have it at 100Hz with stock timings. My model also has a 4ms resonse time, not the average 8ms as with some models of this monitor. Definitely worth picking up second hand for it's price.
Cheers for having a geeze at my build, hope you enjoy some of the eye candy photos! (Taken with my iPhone 5)
