Description

** Update 4/10/2016 I added a Corsair 100i v2 for more overclocking headroom and quieter use I have the CPU now at 4.6Ghz. Added pictures.

Getting back into desktops after using a laptop for about 2 years as my primary computer gaming and a fun project on building another PC.

When building the PC I was looking for a very low key look on the machine. Something that is not in all in your face gaming PC. I wanted to keep the aesthetic of my laptop. ( p35x v3 ) very minimal but very powerful.

The two monitors I already own are a samsung U28D590D 28' & acer S271HL DBID 27'

As for picking the parts I wanted a machine with legs so i picked a unlocked i5 skylake and the best 980 TI i could find. everything else was based on price as my final out the door budget I put on myself for this build was 1400$ however I came in under budget even using just amazon for all the parts ( free 2 day shipping )

There are two things I already owned before the build that i added to it and that's a pro copy of windows 10 & a samsung 840 Pro that has all my games and the OS on it.

There are some problems however. The motherboard and this case do not have completely aligned standoffs for the motherboard. There are 2 stand off contacts on the motherboard that are not connected on the far right of the case.

Another issue is the window wall on the case is a little bent and you have to force the screws in to align them to allow it to be flush with the case.

The performance on this machine is beyond what i expected. I am able to play most games in ultra/ high at 4k and some other ones i will put to 2k ultra 60. Stock the machine was putting out 7924 firestrike extreme (http://www.3dmark.com/fs/7792738)

After a mild overclock on the CPU and GPU I was hitting 8451 (http://www.3dmark.com/fs/7792918)

In closing this machine is perfect for what I wanted. The main reason for this rig is for hopefully 4k 60 in The Division since the card came with a free copy. The one thing I would change about this build would be the case. I cheaped out a little but with this one however if you have the extra money i would suggest something a little nicer like the nzxt mid size.

let me know if you have any questions or comments.

"Just a tk gaming rig"? I see a lot more capability, a description would really help!

very good price to performance, I would only use this for 2k, at 4k it would be suffering.

It's this table top from IKEA http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S99930904/ with the silver stand off legs. If you have a IKEA near you this table is only around 60$ USD and the legs are 5 bucks each.

Is there a comparable mobo that would fit this case? I'm going to do a build similar to this, but with a different 980 I believe.

I don't actually know. Its the first case I've used that had the stand offs not match the motherboard.

Aloha derkeysersoze I'm currently piecing my rig together using the same Phanteks case and the H100i v2. I'm mounting the radiator in the same position as you did, but where are your rad fans? In front of the radiator? Did you go with pushing or pulling the air?

The fans are in the front for a pull and the rear fan is the push.

I'm planning a build with the exact same cooling config and was wondering if I could front mount a 240mm AIO while still keeping the optical drive bracket in place, so this was really helpful to see! Nice build!
