So in October I set out to build a pc. As someone who works in IT, it's something I always wanted to do but never got around to doing. I've always been a console gamer as well and ignored the master race pc argument. I came to the conclusion I was going to build a pc I could be proud of and game with while attempting to maintain a budget. Over the course of October-December I began buying parts when/where I could, utilizing different sales(Black Friday, Cyber Monday, etc.). Very quickly I learned how easy it was to zoom right over that budget! I would research on and on about different parts and pros/cons, where to spend more money and less money, Wants/needs, appearance. Finally the day after Christmas and me receiving my last couple of items (which relatives asked and got as gifts), I took my pc parts to work (IT nerds) so that me and one of my interested coworkers could put it all together. What a rush! It was extremely exciting and satisfying to put together/get fired up.

Looking forward to any and all positive or negative feedback/criticisms/improvements/questions.

As for the cost, I need to figure out how to edit what I actually paid. All in all my build cost me roughly $1,800 not the $2,400 shown.

Part Reviews

Have been using for a couple of weeks now and it does amazing! Absolutely crushes anything and everything. Right now I have it comfortably OC'd to 4.5 GHz but I'm sure eventually I'll push it and see what it can do. So far so good though. Very pleased with my purchase.

CPU Cooler

Not much to say here. Its a great looking fan in my opinion and it works great so far.

Very pleased with my purchase of this mb so far. Has handled everything I've thrown at it with no problems.

Nice cheap ram. No complaints here!

My first ever SSD and it is amazing. I was originally going to do 1 SSD and then a couple TB 7200 HD for storage but after using this thing it convinced me to eat the cost and spend a little more for a 1TB SSD

Video Card

I did a ton of research before deciding on a gpu and everything I read on this was overwhelmingly positive and rightfully so! I had a 4K monitor already so 4k was on my mind when purchasing and this absolutely crushes every game I throw at it. Destiny 2 looks remarkable. PUBG absolutely fantastic. Going to really test it with Rise of the Tomb Raider. Very pleased with my purchase.

Great looking case. Very pleased with the appearance.

You can go to Edit part list, click the little gear icon and put in custom price and purchased already if you want.

Nice build. Very solid with that 1080ti

Found your price issue if you didn't already it the gpu. Its over priced by the seller at the moment.

Brandonbartholomew12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Yeah I was fortunate enough to get it for around $700 vs the bloated price tag it has now. I need to edit my prices with what I actually paid not current.

insertusernameandsoul 2 points 1 month ago

Ya that ok. 700 bucks is a good deal on a 1080ti with a good cooler. I think your storage prices went up along with the ram

I’m in the same boat. I work part-time IT and am doing my first build (I’ve saved parts for a budget and a dream build). Very sexy build! I like the CPU cooler! How does it handle OCs? I was thinking about doing a full water cooling loop. You spend that kinda cash, why the hell not?! Right??

Brandonbartholomew12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Thanks and good luck to you as well! So far with what I have OC'd I have not seen any temperature issues. The CPU cooler seems to be working awesome.

Generally, I don't like air coolers. They just seem ugly and bulky to me. I've always preferred AIO or Custom watercooling. But that one, I like it. Congratulations. You have found the first air cooler that I like. 1+

Thanks! As soon as I came across it I was sold visually then just looked up some performance reviews.

you wound up in the same boat i did, you went in with a nice build, and came out with a nicer build but a higher cost that you deem worth the extra cost.

also other thing to note, the GPU is currently sitting in a PCI-e x8 slot which slows it down a bit, only the top slot on any mainstream consumer intel chipset motherboard is a full PCI-e x16 slot. i suggest moving the GPU up into the top slot.

other than that really nice build with well though choices in parts that went in, i can clearly see that you tried to stay on budget, especially with the choice of RAM that you have in your build, but overall it is clean, well though out, and well executed to do a certain task from the get-go. +1

Thanks for the info on the GPU. Definitely didn't know that.

Infektdd 1 point 1 month ago

also you'll notice that the top PCIe lane is reinforced to prevent GPU sag

Brandonbartholomew12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Yeah I haven't had any issues with sagging so far but I will look at moving it up to the top slot. Thanks.

Did you have any issues with the CPU not posting?

Brandonbartholomew12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Appearing on the build page?

Pornstarrunner 1 point 1 month ago

I have a similar build, but I can’t get it to work. I am about to give up.

Brandonbartholomew12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Really that's weird. Where are you running into your issues at? When you power on?

Pornstarrunner 1 point 1 month ago

Yes. I think I have narrowed it down to the motherboard. I’ve tried 2 different processors with the same results.

Pornstarrunner 1 point 1 month ago

Here are my parts. I can’t seem to change it on the mobile site to a completed build, but all the parts are bought: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Pornstarrunner/saved/sXp4CJ

Everything looks fine there. Basically same build other than the notes about your gpu. So when it loads the bios an error message comes up? Sorry this is like a week late, you may have already solved the issue. If so, what was it?
