Description

Original build: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/GKf8TW

Decided to make a few upgrades.

Liquid cooling to prepare for the summer. Not much of a difference from my NH-u12S but I'll give it a chance to prove me wrong.

GPU upgrade to a 1080FTW. Excellent 1440p card. 70 to 100+ fps in ROTR with everything maxed out. 90+ consistently in NFS 2105 maxed out.

Monitor addition with the 2560x1440 144Hz G-Sync Dell monitor. G-Sync is a godsend. 144Hz is where it is at. Panel is great for a TN. Excellent for gaming

Corsair Straffe RGB. Love the MX reds. Mt first mech keyboard. Love it.

G502 Proteus. Best mouse ever. Ultra comfortable and feels great to use.

Zero hardware problems since the system was built. (Feb)

Thanks for checking out the build. :-)

Yo awesome build man +1 from me. I have a question though. How is that motherboard? Is it any good? Because it stands out next to other competitors on price to performance.

Thanks for the compliment!

The Extreme 4 is awesome. Its been ultra stable and the 8 layer pcb adds some durability. Love the ultra M.2 and the ASRock bios is easy to navigate. I've had zero problems with it whatsoever. You're right about the price for performance. It's kind of a steal. Plus, the color scheme is unique and beautiful. It looks better in person than in photos.

I only have 3 cons (minor ones): (1)The second PCIE slot is rather close to the first so SLI will be ultra tight or not possible with any kind of decent card as they will be two slot cards. (2) There aren't 2 USB 2.0 headers so if you have an H100i you will need to use the USB 2.0 header for the Corsair Link monitoring and consequently have to disconnect any front panel USB 2.0 ports to use it. It depends on the case you use, of course. Some cases only have 3.0 ports on the front panel which in that case, you're good. Just wish it had 2. (3) While the board does overclock well, it does so in voltage "steps". For example, if you go into the bios and set the cpu voltage to a "fixed" value, it may not accept your specific value. Lets say you want the cpu voltage to be "1.245V", the board will likely give you a voltage of 1.248V. If you ask the board to output "1.250V", it will likely still give you 1.248V until you ask it to output a value above or at the next step which will likely be 1.254V. While many boards control voltage this way, there are boards that will give you better control over the specific voltage or smaller steps. It's not a deal breaker as I'm not a pro overclocker.

If you're considering buying it, I recommend it. If you're considering buying it on Newegg, know that the box will ship to you open. Perhaps they check them for the included equipment. I'm happy to answer any future questions you might have about it. Hope that all helped!

Thank you a lot for your answer. One question I have is that is it a good thing that the box comes open and where did you buy it from? We'll those are two questions :)

I bought it from Newegg. I don't consider it a good thing, as it could be a return that was unused or perhaps even used lightly and the customer said it was unopened when returning it. All the pieces were there and it appeared to be unused but the manual looked like it had been touched. If you buy it from Frys or Micro Center, the box will be sealed and unopened. Provided they have the motherboard I want in stock, I will be buying my next mobo from a box store like the aforementioned. Newegg has great prices and good customer service so there is that to consider. Hope that helped as well.
