Description

So you might be wondering about the title, I got it when I asked my friend what was white, red and black, and he said a bloodstained newspaper. So naturally that reminded me of Clue, you know that one game where you have to figure out who killed who with what and in what room, and there the title was born.

Anyways this pc is going to be used for 3D modeling, virtualization, other engineering programs and some 1080p gaming. I was able to get a stable overclock of 3.8 GHz at 1.33 v, not bad for a first time overclocker with the stock wraith cooler.

Overall the build was pretty easy, there was no complications and installing windows was a breeze. I don't know why people say that there's too little room behind the back panel in the H440, I was able to put it on without any force.

My first upgrade would probably be a better single or dual tower cooler to be able to reach that mythical 4.0 GHz overclock, but my wallet is still crying and refuses to open up.

Thanks for looking at my build!

Part Reviews

CPU

Really good processor for the money, the included cooler doesn't suck and you're able to do some pretty good overclocks on it.

Motherboard

Love this motherboard, has a good color scheme and has wifi, what more can I ask for?

Man wish I had a ryzen 1800x instead of a plain Jane 6700k , I'm so team red but I went traitor on em, gsync has me locked in. Imma start some 3D modeling after I finish nursing school , friend has made over 500$ on the side doing it in a month. Aka took him a coupl years to get good but I see the ryzen chips are render monsters!

The 6700k is still a very good cpu, I would have gotten that if I wasn't going to be doing very heavily multi-threaded applications. The 1800x is too expensive for me, you could get comparable performance from the 1700 if you overclock it.

Anyways don't feel bad about your cpu, and good luck on nursing school!

Pretty neat my dude. Hows Ryzen serving you so far?

Academically_Dishonest submitter 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

It's serving me really well, overclocked to 3.8 GHz @1.33v with only the stock cooler is really awesome. Before this I had a potato laptop that could hardly play anything, so the performance increase is massive. Really glad I went with the 1700 instead of the 6800k and spending over a hundred dollars more.

Wow. This is the exact same PC I was getting... except I'm using an 1800X

I personally love the BitFenix Neos

Only 3.8 GHz? People got the old FX-8320s up to 8 (but that probably last at least 10 seconds without crashing :C

Uhh... does that statement come with a /s?

It's almost impossible to get any Ryzen cpu over 4.0 GHz, all the cpus that I've seen either can only hit 4 but at insane core voltages like 1.44, and to go over that you probably need to do exotic cooling like LN2.

But yeah the NZXT H440 holds a special place, right next to the node 202 but there isn't any mini itx boards available.

Good luck on your build!

3.8Ghz on the stock cooler, awesome.

+1

Academically_Dishonest submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Yeah thanks, it was pretty hard to reach the required voltage but I got there. The stock cooler is no joke, after an hour of AIDA64 the highest temperature I got was 70C, granted the fan speed was like 95% but the cooler isn't loud at all.

rhali8 2 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Awesome. I'd like to point out that those temps are actually wrong. AMD reports your CPU as 20C hotter than it actually is. So you probably have even more headroom, unless you've hit the voltage limit. Ryzen's thermal wall is very hard to hit.

Academically_Dishonest submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Actually that 20C temp increase is only for the 1700x and the 1800x, not the lowly 1700. Either way once I get a better cooler the temps would go down and I could overclock more.

rhali8 2 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Ah, I didn't realise that. Still, 3.9GHz @ 70C is amazing on a stock cooler. Nice :)

pretty bad GPU sag, may want something to prop it up

Academically_Dishonest submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Yeah, I was thinking of using fishing wire or a stick to prop it up.

How do you like the Board? I was skeptical so i went with msi. Pretty killer build dude! we pretty much have the same system Minus the boards.

Academically_Dishonest submitter 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

The board is pretty good, chose it due to it having wifi and being pretty cheap.

If you are upgrading PSU, make sure get the GQ type. It is 80+ Gold and you know how good EVGA is. And other than that, keep the Chip running!

crzysquirrel 1 point 8 months ago

Is the H440 big enough with all those parts for a larger CPU cooler?

Thanks for the praise! The RX 480 is performing really well, I got it overclocked to 1300 MHz and it plays all games at 1080p at ultra settings, really recommend it.
