How is the Pentium holding up in games with the 960?

Seems like it would be a good match when overclocked but just interested to see what frame rates your getting?

spawnofcreation submitter 1 Build 2 points 41 months ago

It holds surprisingly well, as long as you stick with 1080p. and depending on the a+ title, you can keep a 60ish frame rate with decently mid-high settings. I've only done mild overclocks as the cpu is clocked to 4.2 and the gpu core is up by 200mhz before boosting

It runs a heavily modded minecraft perfectly fine with texture packs and shaders, which is what is mostly played on it by the kids.

tf2 and csgo run at 120fps(capped to monitor refresh rate) except in particle rich enviorments (pyros/explosions everywhere)

rocket league is a constant 120fps no matter what (you have to edit a file to set fps limit).

planetside 2 is set to medium graphics and max render distance, and runs at 45-75fps however it is a known cpu hog of a game.

These are taken from the steam fps overlay

Thanks this helps a lot,

Been thinking of getting this processor for a build for my girlfriend.

Hey, this is a bit late but, where did you get the lights from? Was it easy installing them? Thanks!

spawnofcreation submitter 1 Build 1 point 41 months ago

www.coldzero.eu

as tehre are no instructions, it can be a bit difficult to figure out what needs to go where. But once you do its easy.

Sherdy55 1 point 41 months ago

Thanks!

Where did you get that light panel that goes across the bottom ??

LOVE that ....

Thanks for Sharing !!

uglymonkey913 2 points 41 months ago

According to his description of "Cold Zero Custom Case Parts" I located it. Pretty neat invention if you ask me.

Down below is the link. http://www.coldzero.eu/lightboxes/2182-350d-lightbox-1.html

Can you change brightness/color of those LEDs? That is way to bright for my eyeballs.

spawnofcreation submitter 1 Build 1 point 41 months ago

i requested an rgb, but the guy who makes them said it would be too much trouble. so i requested a blue instead to match the rest of the build.

You could connect it to a fan controller and control brightness as it is uses a 3 pin fan connector. I didn't bother.

hack3r 1 point 41 months ago

Love the blue light, now considering the light panel...

ABundleOfBunnies 1 Build 1 point 41 months ago

That is one nico looking beast. I like the LEDs when they are DIm. They make it look like neon goop. XD +2

Cool dude.

should have tried to stretch out and get a i3

spawnofcreation submitter 1 Build 1 point 38 months ago

I thought about it, but decided to go with something higher frequency, hence the g3258 and its overclocking potential.

I didn't need anything more powerful as i have a 4690k with a 980 Kingpin for another guest gaming/lan pc, and my main pc with a 5960x and 2x 980ti's.

16TTek 1 point 38 months ago

but with a 960? that will be a bottle neck!

spawnofcreation submitter 1 Build 1 point 38 months ago

Only for ridiculously cpu intensive applications. For most games its fine and gets 60-120fps on medium to high settings.

16TTek 1 point 38 months ago

that still seems like a bit of a bottle neck the 960 should be able to run at ultra settings 1080p with a bit of AA!

spawnofcreation submitter 1 Build 1 point 38 months ago

It does with most, but with a small number of high cpu intensive horribly coded aaa games, it struggles a little. Even with 2 980ti's in sli and a 5960x, thoes games struggle more so than others. For example, Far Cry 4, Watchdogs, or Arkham Knight before the patch. You are never going to find a piece of hardware that works perfectly and efficiently with every piece of software. Especially when games notorious for low fps on high end gaming systems are run on low-mid end systems.

But, if you want to call that a bottleneck, then go ahead i cant stop you.
