Description

Been stuck on a iMac for the last 3 years. Built this so that I can start gaming with my friends again. Unfortunately, I got use to the 1440p monitor and I can't stand to look at 1080p monitor anymore. Looks so pixilated. Im hoping that this rig will power a 1440p with high/ultra graphics for at least 1-2 years. I mostly just play MMOs and RTS. Let me know what you think.

I suggest that you put your graphics card in the upper most PCIe x16 slot as it is usually faster than the others and is generally recommended for GPUs

Nice build! This should be fine for at least two years, probably even longer.

Thank you. So you think I can support the 1440p for that amount of time? Looking at some benchmarks at 1440p resolution is making me think that I will need to sli to gtx 970s rather soon. Just not in the budget at the moment.

That's definitely an upgrade option, but with 4GB of VRAM it should handle a single monitor 1440p setup quite nicely for a while.

Also, you are mostly playing MMO and RTS games, which aren't the most demanding games. Or at lest MMOs aren't, not sure about RTS

I'd suggest putting the fan on your cpu cooler on the other side blowing towards the back of the case. Other than that, very clean build.

this is a very solid build and will definitely be good enough for 1440p for quite some time, although you should move the gpu up to the top pci slot cause its known to how a bit of performance loss when its not at the top also i would've turned around the cpu cooler so it would push all the warm air off the cooler towards the exhaust fan but great build !

Thank you! Sorry I took that picture mid build. The fan is facing the back of the case at the moment. Thanks for the tip on the gpu placement. I was unaware of this. This is just the second time I have built a computer.

If you ever miss OSX you could just dual boot with a flash drive or another hdd/sdd

If you're sitting 37 inches from a 1080p monitor (24") the display becomes 'retina', where as the PB278Q a 1440p (27") becomes retina at 32 inches. http://isthisretina.com/

Just got the monitor today. I am so glad I decided to spend the extra on the 1440p. It looks amazing. Also, I want to think everyone for the feedback on the build. The picture was mid-build, and I did end up facing the cpu fan to the back of the case. I will move the gpu to the top slot this weekend. This is an awesome sight with great users. I am happy to have found it.

Put the gpu on the top PCIe x16 slot as it is usually faster and optimized for GPUs, as dfour802 said
