Description

I built this system in stages, changing parts out over the last 3 years. I had the SSD, CPU, motherboard and RAM the longest and RMA'd my 7 year old Corsair HX750 80+ silver PSU and got a new HX750i in return.

I bought an Open Box GTX 970 for $289.99 a month or so after it's release. I was able to get a GTX 980 EVGA SSC for $254.99, then step that up to a GTX 980 Ti ACX 2.0 for the difference, which was $41 (+$25 shipping) and sell off the GTX 970 for $265.

The GPU musical chairs and the three Thermaltake Riing fans were the last changes I made to the PC (as seen in the pics). I painted my motherboard heat sinks, RAM and radiator white.

In the last 20 months or so I've seen everybody and every manufacturer get on board the black/white train, so naturally my build feels boring now. Black and red was still the thing when I got most of these parts, the main parts were black and red :).

Anyway, I'm finally posting this now because I've never been enthused to post a build for something I had long before I joined the site. However, I frequently get asked as to why I haven't posted any of my builds, so I thought I'd start with this one.

I hope you all enjoy it!

Very nice build!!

Your first +1, i would try giving you more but i cant..

Are you watercooling the 980ti anytime soon?

PureBlackFire submitter 1 Build 1 point 28 months ago

possibly. was thinking about a change to hard tubing. might change the rad to a thinner 420 rad (29-40 mm) and add a pair of HW labs stealth 240's as well. more than anything though, I want to upgrade the system first, because if I do a full loop or hard tubing i want it to stay like that for a good while.

Nice build. Love the simple colour scheme. What do you think of the new tempered glass version of your case? Do you think that you could fit this build easily enough in the smaller pro M case or would you not recommend that?

1.2 OC! I can't justify the extra for liquid just yet but thats cool. I'm planning on going the opposite way. But just not Underclocking. I wanna see how cool I can make mine by undervolting and lowering latencies until I can Overclock on liquid. But even then I'm not gonna push the planned ryzen. Nice setup though.

Haha, this is really late but how does the SSD function?

PureBlackFire submitter 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

hi. I have since replaced the SSD with a 525GB MX300.
