Description

I built this machine after finding this website and seeing all the cool custom build PC's. This is my first ever PC build.Always wanted my own gaming rig had a hp envy 17.3 inch laptop before that i was using for gaming and it just couldn't keep up. Build took me over 3 months to build and gather funds for the GPU as that was the most expensive part. 980ti smahses through games like knife to butter, no bottlnecking , no screen pixelation just smooth intensive gaming.

Went for i7 6700k reason being was fastest speed CPU at the time didnt want to overpay for a x99 chipset, plus 4GHz is plenty at stock with no need for me to overclock. Also

case-NZXT H440 WHITE- Absolutely massive case with loads of room asu can see from the GPU in it that its huge, loads of room for cable routing and if u take out all unused hdd bays u get better airflow and space for water cooler pipes

ASUS SABERTOOTH Z170-S Bought this MOBO in a bundle deal came with the white camo ram , definitely worth it was a flip of coin whether to get z97-saberooth with i7 4790k but after priced up was only £20 difference so thought it would be a better upgrade.

16gb ram plenty of room for gaming and doing other tasks required in back ground

water cooler- Went with a water cooled all in one with the Kraken x61 , first one shorted out on me and had to get another to replace , but apart from that had no issues and keeps cpu very cool even when gaming never reaches past 40'c.

HDD/SDD 1TB for films and normal stuff 250GB ssd for games and OS boots up pc in 6 seconds faster without login screen

psu Corsair 1000hxi- Bought more power than I actually needed for this build but gibes me room to buy another GPU in the future and SLI without having to upgrade PSU , better to buy it when u have funds rather than when you don't.

GPU- Gigabyte 980ti Extreme 6GB version , is a beast as i said like a knife through butter when it comes to FPS. Haven't over clocked yet , new to this really not had a use for over clocking yet. Smashes CS-GO with 270FPS average 300FPS max. RGB lighting on fans and wind force logo is a plus fit nice with my build and temps are low , around 35'c when idle 45'c when under load.

Rest of stuff purchased was mostly for aesthetics looks and colours wanted a nice clean build stayed with colour scheme white and black as seen many builds wth white schemes and think they look great.

I know it's been said before but the 1080 comes out in just a few days, either way that's a great build you've got yourself.

Exactly what I was thinking. With the GTX 1080 coming out on Friday for the same price, the price is surely about to plummet on those 980ti cards. He could have at least waited on a sale for the 980ti. If he can return it, I'd do that. Otherwise, screw it, it's still a great card. Game on.

  1. What do you have running along the white cables to keep them straight like that? Link?

  2. There is a thin dvd drive in the pics. Is it installed somewhere in the case or do you do like I do and only plug it in if you need it?

http://www.e22.biz/product/e22-combs-black-3mm-blister-pack/ 16 pin cable combs keeps the 2 8 pin power supplys to GPU together and yeah i plug in an external dvd drive when installing driver and games etc as there is no expansion bay on thisa case for a dvd drive

Well done on the cable management and the build in general, a very clean cut finish.

Try the 3D Mark demo on steam, or possibly the Furmark program to get a better idea of the temps your GPU will produce.

Nice build and +1 for saying "screw getting the latest" like a rebel when it comes to the gfx card.

Excuse me, but why isn't your GPU in the first PCI-E slot? I'm new to the PCMR and I've heard that putting your gpu(s) in lower slots will decrease their efficiency. Is that true? Great build btw.

its in the first GPU slot closest to CPU its that big it looks like its further down

thank you for the speedy reply :)

absolutely fantastic build, and great part selection

Just build my PC with that MOBO so sexy!! +1

  • 1 point

someone who understands my desire for this mobo to the camo effect matches my white build very nicely , really wish the z97 saberooth-s had compatibility with the z170 chipset and DDR4 ram as that is much nicer with the thermal armour

plus came in bundle with the included 16gb batalistx ram in camo white to , extra sweet

If you didn't want to overclock your CPU you should've just got the 6700 and then you could've also saved money on the motherboard too.

  • 2 points

the option is there in the future tho if i decide to push it and overclock

  • 1 point

Definitely :)

  • 1 point

Just remember he stated that 4GHz was what he was happy with so he didn't need to overclock, the 6700 base frequency is 3.4GHz not 4GHz. ;)

  • 1 point

Yeah, but it always has that boost clock.

  • 1 point

4GHZ not when all cores are underload though and the 6700K is 4.2 Boost so I can see why he went with that chip :)

Why not get the Sabertooth Mark 1, it has thermal armor and pcb reinforcement. Only downsize is... it's black

sabertrooth mark 2 has some thermal armour plus , its a nice white camo which matches my build so far the motherboard has performed great

Nice build! I love xtreme edition 980ti, my go up to 1430mhz out of the box, you have only 1.22? Did u activated LN2 bios?

  • 1 point

im confused to what you mean please explain for my simple mind

  • 1 point

what is you GPU clock without OC? Did you push little button on back of the card

  • 1 point

1216mhz and no that would require me to open up my case again , do u only have to push it once at then it stays like that ???

  • 1 point

Lol, push one more time button, and then try to benchmark you will see boost to 1400+

  • 1 point

i will need the extra 6 pin power cable connected wont i , as i forgot about this when instralling and havent plugged it in , is a nightmare to get case apart again to fiddle with all the cables going into my modualr psu

  • 1 point

the extra 6 pin power cable for the extreme button , no i havent do u only have to push it once when u connect extra power cable, correct me if im wrong please not got to grips with this card yet and my gpu clock is 1216mhz left at standard

  • 1 point

oh right u mean the extra 6 pin power conncetor required for the ultimate gpu boost , i think thats what u mean no i do not have the need for this much clocking atm

please correct me if i am wrong and this answer is not what u mean

I love the name. Actually, when I was scrolling through the builds today, I thought it said Explosive White Box. I'm like, "wut?" Then I opened up the page, and saw the actual title.

Love the build man! I want to do something very similar.

Just wanted to know if you can talk about your fan/kraken setup with the grid+ v2.

Is the kraken connected to the grid or is it connected directly to the CPU fan header?

What header did you use to connect the grid to the motherboard?

You literally have the same exact build I'm dreaming of.

Nice job on the build
