Description

A PC built for gaming and messing around with. I like the CPU and mobo for overclocking fun. Case is cool. Rig is reasonably quiet, could be better, but I always game with headphones so it doesn't bother me at all.

2/28/19 Put in a PowerColor RX 580 Red Dragon 8GB. I was concerned that it would be too high but it fit perfectly in this Corsair Air 240 Case.

Nice looking rig. There's a big problem though, the G3258 is gonna have a hard time loading the GTX 970... Should have gone for a 4690K. Edit: Not sure why i'm getting downvoted... but okay.

I'll get whatever new i5K Intel throws at us next year. For now, this PC is kicking *** for me.

Next year's i5 will require a new mobo and ram as they are changing to a new standard. Broadwell will be the last LGA1150.

$50 processor with a $65 cooler? 10/10 budget management.

I have to say the looks are there and it shouldn't be too much of a slouch in games either. Nice build with room to grow (cough processor cough). :)

I think he coulda saved some more cash by getting a 212 hyper EVO tho.

Sounds solid, the G3258 shouldn't show problems except in the few games that require quad cores, but even those can be patched to use dual cores. I a plus side is you can throw that g3258 in a HTPC or NAS system when you're done with it! I hope to see some high res/uncompressed pics of your build in the future! :D

The whole point of that CPU is to overclock it... If they were to spend $110 on a CPU, they'd probably get what, a locked i3 that'll be slower than if they OC the G3258.

haha, no

i've defended the g3258 already today so just look at that

edit: i do agree with the budget management

Oooh this is nice...because I have a 750 watt EVGA PSU, and I want to get a 970 with my Pentium g3258 and Corsair h80i. Are there any problems with the 970 and Pentium so far? I REALLY WANT TO PICK UP A 970 now and upgrade to a 5th gen unlocked i5 just like you. +1 all the way bro. :D

Just wondering, how much are you wishing to spend on this computer? There might be a better alternative...

Lol I was going to get a 970 I got a 960 instead. Later down the road I'll get an i5 and that's it. I'm only 14 years old. Half of the computer went to my parents anyways...

Are those Orange or Amber lights?

Amber LED strip off of ebay. This is the first strip I've bough that has a plastic semicircle along the length to amplify the lights.

Dat overclock tho...

I'm always amazed at how much people get with overclocking the Pentium, at how far they are able to push that little chip.

How does it perform with the 970? Any problems with bottlenecking?

It's been rocking for me so far. I can max out Tomb Raider with all the fixins and it's steady over 60fps.

I would've just used the stock cooler/CM Hyper 212 and put the rest of the money into a 250GB Samsung 840 EVO.

The Air 540 does look really good with a liquid CPU cooler however.

Hey! I absolutely love the build, but I've got one question for ya, what are the temps like on that 970? I'm thinking of picking one up for my own Air 240 build, and would love to know!

I can get the card up to 70c, but it idles at 30c and hangs around 40 for most games. The issue I have with the card is its looks. It is screaming for a backplate. Woof.

Could you do me a favour and measure the height and length of the window on the Air 240? Thanks!

Spends $50 on a CPU - spends $400 on a graphics card...
