Description

My little beast

Started out as more of a workstation but then progressed into a gaming machine! Ultimate goal was quiet performance. It runs happily at 4.6ghz and the fans are always kept on the lowest profile so its near silent. The h80i does a great job of cooling and the Noctua fans are an aural improvement over stock fans and temps fare slightly better too. They are set up as intake push/pull with one of the stock h80i fans intaking from the side and the other exhausting. The smaller 80mm fan is around the cpu clock exhausting air towards the SP120L exhaust fan. The Crucial SSD is mounted down low and I drilled out the 5.25 inch bay as it restricted space inside, I have now mounted this underneath the case and made a new stand to cover it. I had to dremel a larger hole for the extra cabling but that was no biggie.

One thing to note with this case is, without the side bracket and the 5.25inch bay, it does flex quite a bit. This is not generally a problem but can cause the Mobo to short out if screwed too tightly. There is also 0 space for cable management. I covered the case cables with black tape and ran them under the mobo but cant do anything about the fan cabling!

Gaffer tape on the front is there to make sure air is forced in from all 4 sides of the rather than pushing any out. (saw this online somewhere and thought I would try it)

The Galax is a beast of a card although this is my second one that whines...will see if it makes a difference with the 3rd. All in quite pleased, will look into getting a plextor m6e when it comes down in price!

Thanks for looking, will get more pics in later

Pretty good, got it as I got used to typing on my macbook and wanted something I could use wirelessly on windows and it had to be backlit! This ticked all the boxes so I got it! Good deal on Amazon at the time so happy with it :)

just curious, did you find a need for the 2 side fans? I have built in this case a few times and with liquid cooling my temps have never warranted extra side fans. Also, just curious if the tape on the front is really helping. I am big on aesthetics but that's just me and I realize that you can not see it with the front panel on but it seems like that would limit extra airflow

Thanks for the comment! The side fans are really for Mobo temps, as the cpu is oc'd the mobo can get pretty toasty (45c at one point) and actually shut me down because of it. Since the side fans I have had no issues and I can't hear them so win win on that!

The gaffer tape was an experiment and I don't think it has worked to be honest. It was ok with the sp120l's as they have a rounded shape that I could cover up but the noctua's are just awesome by themselves. Needless to say that I took the tape off soon after!

Just an update, I returned the 970 due to the whine (way before all the 3.5gb nonsense, don't believe it, still the best card for 1080) and am currently waiting on the next AMD offering. Worse comes to worse I will find a 980 which will keep me going for a good few years!

How are you liking the monitor?

Excellent, that's why I have 3 of them! They are brilliant for all the work I need to do (I actually use all the screens for work so come in handy) and are very capable gaming monitors to boot! Not had any issues with them and they are regularly on offer for only £89 delivered! Absolute bargains :)
