Description

Hey everyone, I've been lurking around for a bit while buying parts for my pc and everything has finally come together these past few days. I'll primarily use this rig for gaming and video editing while at my university. I'm currently not at my apartment (back home for labor day) so I neglected to get closer inside shots of the pc. I have just one from when i was in the middle of the corsair H100 installation so once I'm back I'll get a more updated look.

I've only been able to use it for 2 days before i left but so far, its fantastic. The sheer speed is what has me shedding a tear. I also like the Asus z87 plus' ability to give a slight overclock to your cpu with the press of a button in the bios. It works really well and it'll serve its purpose until I try to get a higher overclock at a later date.

I was originally going to get the Asus 770 but in the end, i went with evga and I'm liking the performance and the aesthetics of the card. Can't wait for that black-plate though so I can stop that gpu sag.

The only thing that went wrong in the build was that my WD 1tb did not work. I can hear it running, but its not visible in the bios or in windows 8 and I have no idea what to do. My 30 days is up so I can't RMA it on newegg. I have a backup drive that i took from a seagate 3.0 2tb that working so I'll see what happens.

Notes: There's evident gpu sag for the 770 and from Google, I was told that a back-plate would help that out so I'll be ordering one pretty soon.

  • If anyone has tips on cable management, I'm all ears. Its a lot tougher than I thought.

  • I haven't bought the asus monitor yet but i was looking for a good monitor for a dual monitor setup in the future. I've been hearing good things about the VN247H-P so that seems like a good choice at the moment

Don't buy a backplate! Go to http://evga.com and under support click "Product Registration" and from there do whatever to register your GTX 770 and then go to http://www.evga.com/articles/00753/ and then sign up for a backplate and they'll send you one for free! Other than that you have a nice build, and for the cable management I can't really help because the picture is somewhat dark and it is rotated so if you could possibly re-upload the photo, it'd be easier to help. Lastly, do you do any editing? Because if you just play games, you could've just went with a i5-4670k.

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, I purchased my card after the signup date so I can't apply for the free backplate. Thanks though. Yes, I do editing. Video editing more precisely.

Good part choice and decent cable management. That must suck to have that WD Black not working :|

If you here the drive spinning up, you might have to go into control panel --> administrative tools --> computer management --> disk management. Then you have to assign a letter to the drive. This sometimes happens with brand new drives that aren't the primary drive.

Thanks for the help. I fear my problem may be deeper than that. I can't seem to initialize the drive which is what would allow me to to assign the letter and form partitions. I get an "incorrect function" every time. I've been googling around but so far no luck.

I had an issue with the WD Caviar Black, and I ended up solving this problem by installing Windows on to the WD hard drive, and that solved my problem.

That's kind of a weird way to solve a problem, especially since you have an SSD, so it makes no sense to not have the OS on the SSD. It's usually a matter of assigning the hard drive a letter in windows.

It worked for me so I can't complain.
