Description

This is an upgrade build and some of the items are from my previous build.

Motherboard: - This is from my previous build. So far, this MB is handling itself pretty good and still have good reviews. The only thing that i didn't like is the color scheme. When i bought this MB, i wasn't planning to do any theme build on the near future. Still a beast at overclocking though.

CPU: - Also from my previous build. As this PC is mainly used for light work and more on gaming, the i5 4670k is still very much sufficient. I am planning to upgrade to an i7 4790k as soon as i find my credit card (girlfriend hid it to stop me from spending. hahaha)

RAM: - I chose this because they are very reliable and have very good reviews. Plus its matches the color scheme that i am going for.

Storage: - Installed my OS to the ADATA SX900, my games to the Samsung EVO and all my other documents in the Seagate Barracuda. All of them have good reviews and so far, they working really good, although the barracuda is bit noisy and probably replace it with a WD green.

Video Card(s): - I went with the MSI GTX 970 Gaming edition for its performance and looks as well. It's a bit of a surprise when i opened one of them had the old death sticker on one of the fans plus a mouse pad but the other one has the updated sticker without the mouse pad. The first one is probably an old stock from when a lot of owners were damaging the fans when removing it. Both of them runs perfectly at 1520mhz. I did encounter a weird thing while doing the Valley benchmark, both GPU's are only running at 70% and thought that my CPU might be bottlenecking it but when running Firestrike, it did ramp up to 100% so i think all is good. EDIT The first card was from my previous build.

Case: - This case is sexy (for me). Well ventilated and has a high airflow rating. The included front fans are very quite and does push alot of air. I chose this because it has alot of custom watercooling options if i ever go that route.

PSU: - Chose this based from alot of good reviews and price. Although i am not a fan of the modular cables because of the stiffness. I bought some Birfenix Alchemy extension cables for my video cards and probably add another one for the 24pin cable.

Benchmark Results: Valley - 5163 Firestrike Extreme - 8907 Firestrike - 15900

Overall this was a fun build, I'm still thinking of replacing some items but we'll see.

I have to ask, what screen are you driving with those 970s, and what kind of temps are the top and bottom cards hitting?

i'm currently running nvidia surround with 3 Samsung 24 inch monitors. They are nothing fancy, just the regular 60hz LED screens.

As for Temps, i noticed that the top card is always hotter than the bottom one but only 4-6 degrees difference. I did modify the fan curve settings for both though having them run at 40% on idle.

On Idle: Top - 34 Bottom - 30

On Load: Top - 66 Bottom -61

Thanks for the reply, these are the exact cards I am looking at running in SLI, I needed to know if they would put out too much heat into the case and I would be better off with nvidia's Blower style.

It seems I dont need to worry as long as I get decent airflow in the case!

Sweet monitor setup, Enjoy!

Definitely one of the more elegant computers on this site. What cable extensions did you use, or did you sleeve them yourself?

Thank you good sir. They are the BitFenix Alchemy extension cables.

Nice part selection, but why 2x 970's over a single 980? It offers the same performance at 1080p, and there's only a 10-12fps drop when playing at 1440p. You could've saved $100 and gotten yourself an i7 4770k. Anyway. Your choice, and that cable management is awesome. :3

Dual 970 is more powerful than the single 980 in some cases

In all cases that have good SLI support.

If you look at some of the 4k benchmarks they are pretty good on 970 2 way sli not sure about 1080p and 1440p though.
