Description

I wanted to do a build with the new Haswell CPU. I used a case I already had on hand--the Cooler Master Enforcer. Love that case; I've done three builds in it. But then discovered that the liquid cooler I picked up at a good price wouldn't work, so bought a new case: the NZXT 420 Phantom, and re-built in it. I purchased most of these parts over the past 6-8 months looking for good deals (made some--missed some) and just waiting for the Haswell to come out.

The ASUS motherboard is too expensive, but has tons of features. I'll be playing with it for months. I'm still saving/waiting for a good deal on a graphics card.

I like that motherboard's features, but to be honest I think that has got to be the ugliest line of boards Asus has ever made. It looks like it came from an Austin Powers movie.

Yeah the gold color scheme is ridiculous.

Can't disagree, but I haven't ever bought a motherboard based on colors.

Sorry--I hear ya! Placement of the radiator and tubes left me with no choice but upside-down.

Ahhhh my neck!! lol just kidding. Only Aesthetics. But really good stuff. What do you plan on doing with the build?

Video creation, editing; financial stuff; a little gaming (COD, Tomb Raider, Dirt2, some lower-end games--but I'm not a heavy gamer); just a computer hobbyist always looking for any excuse to do a build (had to give away a computer to my daughter-in-law to justify this build!).

How is the z87 Pro holding up? I'm planning on using it in my build.

Very well. The motherboard has lots of features. After looking at the whole lineup of ASUS motherboards, however, I probably would go for a less expensive model. Even their lower end motherboards have about all the features I'm looking for.

I'm not thrilled with the AI Suite 3 software... buggy in spots, but looks good and some of it actually works!

Hey man, how do you like the GTX 760? Looking to get one myself. What are the temperatures?

I haven't purchased it yet. Prices on GTX 660s are dropping slowly... I'm still deciding whether to get one of those or wait for a good price on a 760. (It might be awhile)

Of all the things that brought me here it was the xigmatech fan, just wondering how loud is it and does it push a decent amount of air?

Well, I can only give you a subjective answer... the fan noise seems low to me; amount of air moved is just average, although a 140mm fan moves considerably more air at quieter levels than smaller fans.
